“open warfare”
This conflict is a whole other sort. While sure, it is “open warfare “, it is also something almost certainly new: Air raids against regime strategic targets, and terror rockets against a populace. That’s kinda wholly new.
It almost needs a new descriptor to properly describe it. I have no offering. But “open warfare” is not exactly it.
Agreed. Perhaps surgical warfare on Israel’s side. It looks like they are avoiding obvious sites to keep infrastructure in place for the next regime.
I’m reminded of the term “total war” which came to characterize WWII. Total war came to mean, as I understand it, war by any means and against all enemy targets, regardless of distinctions between civilian and military, etc.
It should be humbling to Ayatollah Kakamamie or whatever his name is that he would be dead now if Israel had wanted it. But it’s not. Right now Israel controls the skies over Iran, and they’re taking a beating. But they hate Jews so much I doubt they’ll negotiate for a truce.
When Israel defeats Iran, 2 carrier groups will head to the South China Sea. China is next iron the list. This may be the year of defeating aggression worldwide. NATO can be disbanded and Trillions saved by not having to defend Europe.
China is pleased.

And that was mere 3rd generation war, when we’re now onto the 5th and 6th.
Ahh ... yes ... we can have a “War to End All Wars”. It’ll be great ... a Great War, you might say.
UK Carrier Group Prince of Wales is also in northern Arabian Sea, strike distance to Iran.
‘an emergent operational requirement.’
Have those myself. Daily.
Sounds like poli-speak for “the s*** is about to hit the fan”.
Sherman popularized total war, first against Southerners and later against native Americans.
Sherman tossed around the word “extermination.”
Bet Taiwan is not happy
Well, we’ve already had 2 lessons on why war is the worst option to resolve conflict. We haven’t learned yet, but they do say ‘The third time is a charm’.
That last line should not be taken lightly. It is the central key to society and human behavior.
I can see the cockroaches preparing the celebration party for their promotion to ruler of the planet. Too bad we won't be there.
Keith Richards will stop them!
We’ve been having war since Cain slew Abel, and often for the most ridiculous reasons. Bu now we’re oh-so-advanced. We can get rid of one set of bad guys and then never have war ever again, so we don’t need to be prepared for it.
It’ll be great.

The USS Nimitz is our oldest carrier, scheduled for retirement next year. Could it be moving toward hostile waters to attract an attack — perhaps a couple of Iran’s nifty hypersonic missiles — and serve as the needed excuse for the U.S. to get more directly involved?
