Used to think Thrifty ice cream was great. I loved their burgundy cherry flavor. So I bought a half gallon...When I read the ingredients....I never bought it again.
Maybe they reformulated it for nowadays...will check ..
They used to have lots of items, but they were not the best quality. Then they started raising prices...if they had been smarter they should have gone the dollar store route. A dollar store with a low price pharmacy would be a winner(in my mind).
One problem is that pharmacies are locked into health care organizations, or insurance, payment schedules so little leeway on price cutting.
IMHO
There is a CVS or a Walgreens or a Rite aid every mile or so in any direction. Plus supermarkets have pharmacies too. Something has to give. Too much market saturation. Plus the prices of non-drug/health items are kind of high. I never set foot in one unless using the pharmacy.
My local grocery store is now selling Thrifty Ice Cream.
Rite Aid and Walgreens are retailers, not middlemen distributors.
Knowing you can apply for a third party discount AT THE REGISTER on your drug purchase is proof enough that it’s all a (criminal)scam.
I called Walgreen near me yesterday to see if a script was ready. Of course I only got a recording that said “If you’re a former Rite Aid Customer Press 1.”
I didn’t feel like messing around with their stupid automated teller so I hung up and stopped in later. 15 cars at the drive in and 15 people standing in line. I went back later and it was about ten and ten.
Amazingly, Walgreen wasn’t smart enough to hire any former Rite Aid Pharmacists to take up the slack.
Bartell's first family owned store opened in 1890 and grew to more than 50 stores in metro Seattle.
Each store was operated as an individual business and stocked only products that sold well in that unique neighborhood.
Before 2020, they were hit by organized shop lifting theft.
Most of their stores were really too small to afford full time security.
When Covid hit in 2020, normal shopping disappeared, and they were forced to sell about 70 stores to Rite Aid for less than $100 million.
My neighborhood has a beautiful store. I bought about a half dozen products in there every month.
Today, my store looks like has been looted. Every one who works in there knows the end is near.
I haven’t had a chance to talk to 2 of 5 RA Pharmacists I know; hopefully they’ll all land OK, after the closure.
Thrifty Ice Cream is really good. Better then most out there. Not found in many grocery stores but is found at Valletta grocery here in the San Fernando valley.
You probably mean “Vallarta” supermarkets?

More Thrifty Ice Cream info. here...will probably get new owners during the bankruptcy and be sold at retail grocers:

Ye I mean Vallarta. I cannot pronounce it either... : )
Walgreens is being sold at Fire Sale prices to a private equity Firm. There were no other bidders. Maybe not bankrupt in the true sense but management decided there was no future for Walgreens in it’s present form. The stock was $40 less than 3 Years ago. $11 Today. Losses are staggering.
It’s a real go woke go broke story.
