A couple of weeks ago, I made a post about donations. Posting again for those who may have missed the post. I suggested that if everyone who is a monthly donor increasd the amount by $5.00 a month, that would help Jim Robinsin aviod some stress in fundraising. It would be nice if he could reach the goal without having to make so many pleading requests.

well perhaps Jim needs to step up in his leadership here at FR because this site as turned into a toilet of uncontrolled antisemitism lately.

(and sadly, as I’ve had private chats with freepers, I’m not the only one wondering if this site will even make it into the next decade without some drastic changes all around)
I can’t say I’ve noticed any anti-semitism. Perhaps it’s removed by the mods.

There is a certain amount of bad commentary here on Free Republic. There are personal insults and bad behavior.
The vast majority of Freepers are not that way. But there are enough to make it less than appealing to be here.
There is anecdotal evidence that a number of longtime Freepers have disappeared from this site. I would not be surprised if some left the site because of some of the negativity here.
Gee, as someone who's given *thousands, here I was thinking the thread-raids by internationalists, Isreal firsters and eurotrash war mongers was the problem. Nobody knows them, and many/most are mystery meat foreigners hijacking the board with an agenda.
If you're pointing an accusatory finger, please post specific examples of "uncontrolled antisemitism" or maybe STFU.

Another way, is at the top of the page when you open Free Republic, there is a red bar showing the funds raised. Above that are ways to give, cc etc.

True that. And that includes openly antisemitic comments, as was previously mentioned.
The mods have to do their part. But I think we have to do our part, too. When a post violates Free Republic’s terms, hit that “Report Abuse” button. When I do that, 90% of the time the mods react quickly and remove the offensive post.
I do get that FR tries to allow different conservative views as much as possible. But perhaps repeat offenders should simply be zotted.

and I’m going to point out a reality and that unless there are some major changes here at FR, then there is simply no way this site will make it to 2030.

If Jim or the others who run this site want to bury their head in the sand and only pop up when money is needed, then my words will become true when you come here one day and find a 404 error because the bills haven’t been paid.

Yes, I’ve also noticed some oldtimers have left, and there are many newcomers — lots of unrecognized usernames. As for antisemitism, it’s far rarer here than elsewhere on the web, and any antisemitic or anti-Israel posts are immediately jumped on by Freepers. In fact, if anything FR is overwhelmingly philosemitic, with regular cheers for the continued slaughter of Gazans.

sadly I will probably be leaving also soon after 25 years here. It’s obvious that there’s no captain steering the ship here and the inmates have taken over the asylum.
All i can say about a site helped expose Dan Rather and was a genuine threat to the left 25 years ago — it ain’t going out in style that’s for sure

As far as the the financial situation of Free Republic, I wonder if any thought has been given to making this a subscription fee only site? Since apparently management does not want to accept advertising?
But suppose this was a subscription site? Would that raise enough money to keep this site going? There would be fewer participants on this site if that happened. But those remaining participants would hopefully be committed to responsible commentary. And the overall tone of the site would be benefiting from that..
