Elon Musk is not just hurting himself – he’s hurting MAGA
The Spectator ^ | 06/06/2025 | Raheem Kassam

Let’s face it, no one expected Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” to be perfect. But for Elon Musk to adopt the intransigent position that the work of government should stop in its tracks in pursuit of perfection is a manifest nonsense. Especially when considering OMB chief Russ Vought’s explanation of how the bill helps reduce the deficit.

Musk has a habit of failing to see the wood for the trees. He’s been a long-standing backer of China, which my website has reported on for years. He supported DeSantis, not Trump, in the primary. He recently tried to depose Brexit leader Nigel Farage (it went badly for Musk), and just a few weeks ago lashed out at the architect of the tariffs – Dr. Peter Navarro.

Now, he’s set his sights on the President, tweeting this afternoon about how Trump is in the Epstein Files, as if this were new information. It’s not.

Such petulance, however, was visible to some of us for a very long time. A while ago, I told the New York Times: “Musk is an atheistic, amoral, CCP-aligned, unaccountable foreigner that’s going to be the head of the MAGA movement at some point.” I may have been wrong about that last bit.

Now, Elon has very publicly severed his links with the MAGA movement, going so far as to retweet Malaysian influencer Ian Miles Cheong (who, to my shame, once worked for me), saying Trump should be impeached and replaced with J.D. Vance.

Let’s be honest: this is no great loss. Trump should immediately cancel all SpaceX, Tesla and X contracts with the US government.

After all, Elon once claimed he would save US taxpayers $2 trillion. That figure was then revised down to $1 trillion and then to $150 billion. At last check, just 27 percent of these recommendations can be verified. That is worse than failure.

And he’s not just hurting himself with his very public meltdown. He’s harming the MAGA movement. He’s harming the President of the United States. He’s harming his shareholders and investors. And he’s harming the fight against the far left. For what? His amour propre

It’s a pretty predictable and sad ending for Musk’s short foray with the MAGA right. Good riddance, as far as I am concerned.

Trump was just making a sarcastic offhand comment that if Elon wants to save money you can save money by not paying for his Services that’s all. No one was cutting his contracts and there is no excuse for the way Elon washed out and so quickly.

Is it “real savings” or savings from pushing off the automatic annual budget increase of x%? What are the real cuts? To where and when?

He saw the writing in the wall. As should anyone with half a brain. These aren’t serious cuts. Not in the least. Just another big Government bill with supposed cuts.

Rino Republicans are doing a good job of that on their own

It’s the McDonald’s hamburglar bill..

We’ll cut spending in 2029 for some pork today.

I am 100% on board with Musk’s disapproval of the Republicans’ refusal to make spending significant cuts. Some of the true conservative Congressional Republicans are upset about that, which is why a few of them won’t vote for the bill.

“Let’s be honest: this is no great loss. Trump should immediately cancel all SpaceX, Tesla and X contracts with the US government.”

Talk about a stupid statement. SpaceX is unrivaled in its accomplishment.

Hey, Kassam, you want to send him packing to China, Russia?

This reminds me of the German high command being stunned when Patton was relieved for slapping a soldier.

Elon grossed me out bigtime on this. Yeah yeah, gonna take your space toys and run off?

It’s a 2-way game you schmuck. Be pissy about spending and so on, but don’t threaten national security like that.

Musk has a child complex. And he does drugs.

I have known a few millionaires like him.

I’m done with Musk.

He attacked Trump in public. He hurts MAGA.

I had high hopes for Musk, now I feel like I did after I voted for Romney.

I am only 95% on board.

It’s a terrible bill.

But - I pay enough taxes and without it, they go even higher on Jan 1.

I’m allowed to be 5% selfish!

What do you expect? They are lawyers who memorize books to pass a test and take public speaking classes. Vey few if any have the faintest clue about finance, macro and micro economics. They just spend and when a bill comes it’s autopilot

Living within our means is extraordinarily unpopular these days, even among most self-proclaimed "conservatives", just like eating vegetables and working out in the gym is largely unpopular.

That's why we've become a nation of heavily indebted fat disgusting slobs.

Calling a spade a spade makes it a “child complex?” It’s an abysmal bill and should be called for what it is. I grow tired of walking on eggshells because it’s someone we support. When something is dead wrong it’s wrong period.

No, passing porky bills and calling it cutting spending is what hurts MAGA. Then proclaiming it something it is not further hurts MAGA.

Another in a long line, starting with Gingrich, that have sold out conservatism from the Tea Party forward. People need to quit conflating conservatism with gullibility and be discerning for a change.

“Trump should immediately cancel all SpaceX, Tesla and X contracts with the US government.”

Pettiness is not a presidential quality.

Vindictiviness is not a presidential quality.
