Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) trails Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) by 22 points in the state’s Republican Senate primary, according to a poll released Tuesday.

The survey, which was conducted by pollster Robert Blizzard on behalf of the Educational Freedom Institute and first obtained by Punchbowl News, showed Paxton leading Cornyn 50 percent to 28 percent among Republican primary voters.

Paxton expanded his lead among voters described as “very conservative GOP primary voters,” leading Cornyn 60 percent to 22 percent. Among voters described as “high propensity 3/3 GOP primary voters,” Paxton leads Cornyn by 30 points. The poll also showed Paxton leading Cornyn by 35 points among “MAGA voters” and by 12 points among senior voters.

In a statement to The Hill, Cornyn’s campaign said it was “silly season for polling and this one takes the gold medal.”

Cornyn is about to be told that his family wants to spend more time with him!

Will Cornyn read the tea leaves or will he take his woopin’?

I thought it was only seven points. My man Cornyn could easily buy his way out of that deficit. But 22% is a disaster, and I was so rooting for RINO Cornyn. What’s a girl to do except melt down and cry. Ohhh.....

It’s rare to see this. Texans want change. I suspected so but not this much

I bet the libs are chopping at the bit (for you non-Texans that’s very excited) to get rid of John Cornyn and have the race reset to two virgins. The libs can work their magic come election time…..

Cornyn’s campaign said it was “silly season for polling and this one takes the gold medal.”

"Silly Season" normally favors the incumbent against a named opponent.

Paxton is well-known, and has survived many attacks, so Cornyn cannot even promise an effective negative campaign to his financial sources.

Prediction: He raises the money and attacks Paxton, knowing he is going to lose, but does NOT spend all the money, so he has a war chest to ight another day. He will not lift a finger to help Paxton after the primary, of course.

“… showed Paxton leading Cornyn 50 percent to 28 percent among Republican primary voters.…”

Good news… but we must always remember that Texas, like a number of other Southern states, has open primary voting.

This is one of those RINO attributes that you can always count on.

If dems cross the line to vote, they will cross to vote for Paxton. Dems in Texas don’t like Cornyn, and they see a chance at beating Paxton in the general.

How likely is Cornyn to actively undermine Paxton when nominated? RINOs are such effective backstabbers that how Reagan got past George Christopher in the 1964 California GOP primary and still won the general election still mystifies me. BTW, Christopher was the last Republican mayor of San Francisco.

Its not silly season.

Going to be interesting to see the deep state tries to help John.

Word is out on this phony - I think he is finally done.

Fight another day.

He’ll be 74. He would’ve made a good SCOTUS before he became a stale senator. Same with Oren Hatch when both were in their 50’s. Senators are easier to confirm but risky.

Texas Ping, the Best State in the USA!

A ping out to the Texas Ping list, founded by Windflier.

The headline states all. (Maybe) no more squishy Cornyn.

Another special Texas summer edition for your perusal.

As always, please FReepmail me if you want on or off the Texas Ping list.

Blessings, and stay cool!

Gun grabbing Ukraine grifting Cornyn.

With Ken Paxton gone from the AG office, only God knows what might replace him. Probably a Bushie.

TX could be closer to going fully blue if it’s not the right person.

Yep. Cornhole is counting on the Democrats to save him.

That said, Cornhole’s strategy will be to claim he’s the only “electable” candidate, so this argument will cut both ways. He’ll claim democrats cross the isle to vote Paxton because he is more easily beaten.

The only way I can see Cornyn surviving is if President Trump dismisses Attorney General Bondi and offers her position to Paxton. The usual RINOs like Murkowski will not oppose such a nomination because they would want to preserve one of their number in the Senate. Paxton would clear the Senate by a 53-47 margin unless Rand Paul goes off the reservation for some reason, but that would lower the victory margin to 52-48.
