Operation Spiderweb, the large-scale Ukrainian drone strike against airbases across Russia yesterday, which you can read about in our coverage here, primarily targeted Moscow’s fleet of strategic bombers. These aircraft, which have been extensively used to launch cruise missile attacks on Ukraine, have been targeted before, but never on such a scale — a reported 117 drones were launched against at least four airfields. At this point, it’s unclear how many aircraft were destroyed or damaged, but there’s little doubt that the Ukrainian operation will have a long-term effect on Russian strategic aviation.
According to an initial statement from the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff, the drones hit 41 aircraft. As of today, those claims have been reassessed, with Andriy Kovalenko, an official with Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, saying that “at least 13 Russian aircraft were destroyed.”
These supposedly included examples of the Tu-22M3 Backfire-C intermediate-range supersonic bomber, Tu-95MS Bear-H long-range turboprop bomber, and A-50 Mainstay airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) platform. Still unconfirmed are reports about the possible destruction of a Tu-160 Blackjack long-range supersonic bomber. The Tu-160 is very much the jewel in the crown of the Long-Range Aviation branch and is the only Russian bomber that is still in production — albeit on a very limited scale — as we will discuss later.

But still a significant blow, more so in the PR arena.
Why do all the videos have the word “Failsafe” in the middle of the images?
Is that movie going to be re-made?
These bombers are part of Russia’s strategic arsenal subject to nuclear treaties. This is way above Z-Man’s pay grade. If any US assets were used during this ‘operation’, and Russia can prove it, they can rightfully say that a state of war exists with the US and NATO, and that the complete strategic menu is on the table.
If all the operational TU95s were destroyed, what are they going to use to fly those routes up near Alaska that we hear about on every slow news day?
No, it’s that when you strike a countries strategic assets, a strategic response is the usual tit for tat response. If I were Russia, a commercial airport or two, a few rail yards, a dam, and a major government building like the Ukrainian parliament building would be my don’t get too cute for your own good response to Zelensky. just saying, poke the bear, remember it has bigger claws and teeth than it’s currently using.
Russia pulled out of New START in Feb 2023. There currently are no active nuclear treaties.
Russia knows that ALL targeting comes out of Langley. Trump approved the hit.
Fredonia is going to war....
Russia knows that ALL targeting comes out of Langley. Trump approved the hit.
Fredonia is going to war....
I believe it was a war crime as they disguised everything involved as civilian
All hail Fredonia!
They still have 40-45 of them.
So another major treaty broken. Ukraine didn’t just find these. They had to have exact coordinates provided to them via satellite. These are bombers that are for international nuclear war. They have to be outside, via a treaty with the US, ours are also outside. This is a no go zone. Who authorized this stupidity? France, UK or the US deep state? This is WW3 Type BS.
Pray brothers and sisters. Russia now has permission to take ours out, they have the means to do it. The US war monger proxy war just went to the retarded level. Don’t worry, we can hide under our desks...
Ukraine has been showing unprecedented innovation with drone warfare for three and a half years. Russia has advanced their drone game and defenses as well, but not as quickly.
Yet people are surprised when Ukraine pulls off an innovative operation using drones.
This comes from the “Russia is invincible” mindset, combined with the “Russia is always right” attitude.
China is the big winner in this war. More and more I think China is doing much behind the scenes to keep the war going.
China gains much more than any U.S. arms manufacturer.
I noticed most also said “NO GPS”. I’d assume the drone was operating in a failsafe mode due to jamming, a mode that ignores all failure indications that would otherwise cause it to shutdown, land immediately or Return to Base. But I’m making assumptions/educated guesses.
The targets were military, so...
But the deliberate strikes on the civilian passenger trains on the same day could certainly be classed as such.
13 strategic nuclear capable aircraft. That’s billions of rubles up in smoke.
Good.
L
Nope. Disguising as civilians is alone itself a war crime. It puts all innocent civilians at risk.
This had supposedly been planned for over a year. Russians were enlisted to truck all the drones in Russia and store them. Putin is in the process of rounding up suspects.
I swear that I saw that the exact same video of the TU-whatever long range Bear getting hit by a drone and exploding about a year ago.
