That today’s (2) peace negotiations in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine have flopped is hardly surprising.
On the one hand, Russian Federation forces have conquered around 20 settlements in a single week, and their offensive on the Northern Sumy and Kharkov regions have the real potential of breaking down the undermanned and underequipped Ukrainian defenses.

But on the other hand, Ukraine arrived for the talks boosted by the success of yesterday’s drone attack on Russian airfields – while the scope of the attack is being heavily exaggerated in the MSM, there’s no denying that this was a major PR victory for Kiev.

Color me surprised.
Well, I'm surprised that anyone expected anything to come fro the negotiations, or lack thereof.

With war hawks like Lindsey Graham running around high fiving Zelensky every time he escalates things, I’m not surprised. Somebody needs to rein him in and tell him he is NOT a member of the negotiation team, and he needs to shut the heck up and go home!

“STATUS QUO” We hear it all the time, but it is instructive to know where it comes from. “Status quo ante bellum” means ‘Return to the pre-war borders’ in international negotiations. All Vladolf Putler’s negotiator demanded is immediate military withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from all four regions Putler tried to steal.
The current neo-Soviet regime is ruining Russia and they don’t care as long as they keep their plunder and power.
I pray for Ukraine every day. Like forever the Russian war cry was in effect, “We will fight to the last Ukrainian!” The Ukrainians were always Russia’s best warriors. Putler really messed up when he invaded these sons of Ataman Platoff!

Russia-Ukraine Talks in Istanbul End After Just One Hour...Well, they always can continue the war until one side doesn't show up any more.

You’re right. Hard to negotiate peace when people are undermining your efforts at every turn.

The Ukies must have asked the Ruskies about the shipping container business and how much more trade they could do after the war.

I assume you have two eyes. But you're using just one of them to notice the escalation by Ukraine, while closing the other eye which would notice the escalation by Russia. In fact, it was Russia that decided to escalate just before negotiations were supposed to occur.
And don't forget that there would be no such thing as escalations, if Russia had not decided to invade Ukraine.
That damn Zelensky, deciding to escalate after Putin decided to escalate. Zelensky needs to realize that it's only Putin that is permitted to escalate.

The attack on Russian strategic assets broke the entire nuclear arms control “regime” and crossed a strong red line. Linda and Da Nang Dick were there just before the strike. They are in the frame for treason. We will wait to see Putin’s retaliation. Trump must be absolutely livid because whoever did this - Z, NATO, anyone who collaborated in the MIC or deepstate have utterly effed everything up. It was insanity.

Kind of hard to get a peace settlement between two countries who don’t want peace. 🤷🏻♀️

It was insanity.
Didn't the insanity begin when Putin decided to invade Ukraine? No negotiations would be necessary if the invasion had not occurred to begin with. And no drone attacks or missile attacks. And no dead and maimed soldiers from either side. Did Putin had anything to do with that? Or was it senator Graham?

I beg your pardon...
Ukraine was at peace, before Putin decided to invade. And Ukraine wants peace, but with the Russians getting out. That's not an unreasonable request by the Ukrainians. Putin wants to keep the occupation of Ukraine in place, and to keep the conquered territory through negotiations. Seems to me and to most of the world that the only reasonable position in this war, is Ukraine's.

The Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's bomber fleet was not an overstated propaganda victory, it was an absolute ass kicking of historic proportions. That said, it really does not change much for Russia.
The Russians have more than enough bombers to do whatever they want or need to do in Ukraine and the Backfires in general are old, at the end of their service lives and not particularly useful in modern war except as missile trucks for cruise missiles and hypersonic missiles.
They are , however, still very effective in that role
US fighter pilots are saddened because their stack of Backfire and Bear paint stencils has just gotten reduced, but in general, this attack has no practical impact on Russia's military capability or ability to operate in Ukraine.
