New search in Portugal in Madeleine McCann case

German police will undertake a new search in Portugal this week as part of ongoing investigations into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The search will reportedly take place in Praia da Luz, the town in the Algarve where she went missing nearly two decades ago.

Madeleine was three years old when she vanished from a holiday apartment complex on 3 May 2007.

Her disappearance sparked a Europe-wide police investigation, and has become one of the highest-profile unsolved missing person cases in the world.

The Metropolitan Police said it was not involved in the new search, but was aware of the operation being carried out by German authorities.

"We are aware of the searches being carried by the BKA (German federal police) in Portugal as part of their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann," the Met Police said.

German authorities said in a statement on Tuesday that "as part of the investigation into the Madeleine McCann case, criminal proceedings are currently underway in Portugal".

They said this was being undertaken with the support of Portugese police.

Tuesday's search will be the first to take place in two years. The last search took place near a remote dam, a 40-minute-drive from where Madeleine was last seen.

The Germans ?

Must be due to that pedophile they have in custody? They reckon it could be him as a prime suspect

If she was still alive, and at the age of 21 which she would be now, we would have heard from her already.

Whoever took her made sure that evidence from and by her, would be completely gone.

You don’t remember anything from age 3.

That unusual marking in the left eye would make her quite identifiable, no?

If she's still living, that is.

They have a suspect who is already in prison for something else. They don't want to charge him until they have a body.

I do. I was burned at age 3 and I remember it very distinctly.

This case has been dragging on for over one generation of time. People may forget that Madeline had/has siblings, a pair of twins, Sean and Amelie, now 20. Both are said to be in college doing well.

It must have been hard to grow up in such a family, with the national news showing your lost sister’s face year after year, and so much attention focused on who was not there anymore, vs who is still here.

I’ve seen it happen with families where one child is severely disabled, and will always require total care. and his brothers or sisters are physically healthy. It takes a level headed, organized parent to remain aware that their healthy kids will still be needed attention and encouragement.

I actually do. And so do a lot of people that I know.

But, if Madeline lived to an older age, she would know that whoever took her, were not family.

I’m shocked this happened 20 years ago.

I remember things at age two. I remember the apartment building we lived in. I remember the yard. I remember things that happened.

What are they expecting to find 18 years later?

The remains of the child wherever she was dumped or buried. They've been searching in abandoned wells in the area for years.

Not to change the subject or hijack the thread. However, I just read that Natalie Holloway went missing twenty years ago. May 30, 2005.

Closure for the parents.

They lost a child.

The press crucified them.

Yes, I understand that. But what will they find that provides that closure?

I remember visiting great grandparents in Texas and experiencing the joy of throwing things out of my crib and having willing slaves pick them up and put them back so I could throw them again. Had the cracked doll for years to remind me of being loved. And of being a spoiled brat.
