UK Vows ‘Warfighting Readiness’, New Submarines and Nuclear Warheads in Defence Review
Breitbart ^ | 06/02/2025 | Oliver JJ Jane

The British Prime Minister has launched his Strategic Defence Review at a shipyard in Scotland on Monday, promising cash for new nuclear warheads, new attack submarines, and a building programme for new munitions factories.

The United Kingdom, which presently spends 2.3 per cent of its GDP on defence, will boost that to 2.5 per cent by 2027 and 3 per cent by some time in the 2030s, the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said on Monday morning. The announcement was criticised from both sides, on one hand for three per cent of national output on defence being woefully low for the claimed threat picture, and from the other for the increase being unfunded and at the expense of government cuts or tax rises

For the Prime Minister’s part, he touted Economic Keynesianism, saying the termination now of the “peace dividend” would mean a “defence dividend” as tax money is funneled into massive military projects that will employ civilians to build weapons.

Great. Nice to know the future Islamic state of the UK will be well armed.

That's the Apocalyptic vision, first articulated in Genesis 16:12.

The British military is in such a pathetic state that it seems doubtful they can turn it back around.

It is hard to believe that this is the same country who stood toe-to-toe against the Nazi juggernaut.

They just “vowed” to get serious. I had a friend who used to vow to his wife the he would be celibate. Every danged time she caught him, he would make that vow. I trust the British, though. Sure I do.

Well, the truth is that Britain already has nukes. I assume they are in good enough shape to launch.

Britain planned the drone attack on Russia's strategic nuclear assets. This speech about "war-fighting" is a rather lame attempt to hide under the skirts of NATO and the United States in the event Russia retaliates directly.

Same old same old...

“It is hard to believe that this is the same country who stood toe-to-toe against the Nazi juggernaut.”

UK never recovered after WWII ... they lost the rest of their world empire and then went totally socialist right at the end of the war ...

during the war, the UK made brilliant advances in sciences and technology, but nada afterwards ...

no doubt another thing that hurt the Brits was the loss of the cream of their male youth during WWI and WWII, thus substantially degrading their gene pool ...

The 0.2% (GDP) increase in defense spending. GDP is about $4T. 0.2% would be about $8B.

It will get spent on civilian salaries.

Better get that memo to President Trump sinc he’s been quite vocal about wanting Europe to spend more on defense.

Just this morning I saw on a podcast how wimpy they have became. Once truly a nation the sun never set on they were on schedule to conquer the world or control it at least.

Now a 100,000 “person” strong military. TOTAL not fighting men. They have such a reduced industrial base they can field 1…ONE division maximum for an extended period. I would assume the navy/airforce is equally puny.

UK wants to buy the F-35A and acquire a weapon akin to the B-61-12, which the F-35A is already certified to carry.
