A bipartisan group of more than 130 retired judges filed a brief Friday urging a federal court to drop charges against Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan, saying her arrest undermines "centuries of precedent on judicial immunity."
Dugan, a Milwaukee County circuit court judge, was arrested April 25 by FBI agents on federal allegations she prevented the arrest of a man by immigration authorities during a federal law enforcement operation at her courthouse. The man, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, was arrested and detained at an immigration detention center.
In an amicus brief filed Friday, the group of judges argue that Dugan shouldn't be prosecuted because "she is entitled to absolute immunity for her official acts."
"This bar on prosecution is the same absolute immunity that is given to members of the legislative and executive branches for their actions taken in an official capacity," the brief read.
The group of 138 former state and federal judges called the prosecution of Dugan, who was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on one count each of concealing an individual to prevent arrest and obstruction, an "egregious overreach by the executive branch" that "threatens public trust in the judicial system and the ability of the public to avail themselves of courthouses without fear of reprisal."

Arrogant judges claim they are above the law, and in fact, they personify it.
Send Hannah to federal prison in Montana. Then she can be called Hannah Montana!
“More than 130 retired judges...”
Did the document they signed also say this prosecution has “all the classic earmarks of a Russian railroading operation”?
Another permanent grifting class.
The problem with their specious argument is that Dugan was not acting in her official capacity. The immunity law protects judges from prosecutions or lawsuits based on their official rulings or other authorized actions connected to their positions. By facilitating the escape of a wanted suspect, she was clearly acting in a private capacity, not an official one.
The very same folks who screamed "nobody is above the law" during their witch hunt against Trump.
What idiots or think “…her arrest undermines ‘centuries of precedent on judicial immunity.’”
Did it ever occur to them that her egregious lawbreaking did far more to undermine trust in the judicial system? That arresting this lawbreaker demonstrates “no one is above the law” and will restore trust in the judiciary?
How typical of those who think too highly of themselves. Immunity has led to arrogance in far too many in the judiciary and elsewhere.
Judges are out of control and they are not above the law.
Yea, riiiiight.
Yawn. The executive branch had nothing to do with arresting the traitorous judge.
Helping an illegal out the back door isn't an official act of a judge, is it?
Excellent analysis!
And where is this absolute judicial immunity for crimes found in law?
Nobody is above the law. Not. Even. Judges.
We heard this over and over again from 2017 through early 2025, but then, it only applied to Donald J. Trump.
Above all, anyone siting on a judicial bench, even a local magistrate or justice of the peace, all the way up the US Supreme Court, SHOULD be held to a higher standard than the general public, because of their special understanding of the law.
Or maybe, they may NOT understand, the more reason to remove them from the bench forthwith. Post haste, even.
More than 130 judges just fell victim to the right to remain silent and not implicate themselves.
What was she thinking? Again, our country is going broke, we don’t need more illegals in our midst helping us to become even more broke. Still, Dems like her find time to virtue signal about illegals being deported. That party has lost its mind… drunk on proving they are better than everyone else. Like all addicts, they know they’ve gone too far but don’t have the strength or drive to quit… and there’s no alternative life to move on to for them anyway. The Dems will die strung out in the proverbial alley of ‘virtue signaling’ before changing their ways.
On principle, I oppose self-important letters of opposition from any clutch of retired, privileged “professionals”.
