Trump was new to Washington D.C. his first term and the only mistake he made was not to understand that everyone he relied on for advice were all Deep State sabateurs. He has learned his lesson since. I don’t blame him a bit for his naivete of his first term. How could he know?

The Federalist Society might as well disband. Whatever they recommend in the future, one should assume that the opposite is equally likely the right answer, i.e. their opinion is now worthless, just noise full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

If Trump hired a lemon, he has only himself to blame. That's what responsibility means. ===================== Oh, bullshit.

Pretty much every conservative, including virtually everyone on Free Republic (myself included) was for the Trump to nominate solid Constitionilist judges from the Federalist recommendations list who follow the law and the Constitution.

We all got scammed by the Washington Establishment shuck and jive artists, not just President Trump.

We all cheered for and fought for Supreme Court nominees Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett who were purportedly brilliant Constitionilsits who would defend the Constitution and the rule of law only to find out later that their so called brilliance was more in line with legal sophistry and judicial pretzel logic.

We all got rolled - especially by Amy Coney Barrett

“I am thinking of creating an Anti-Federalist society to discuss why the Anti-Federalists were right about their fears of the federal judiciary becoming too powerful. In many ways, the Anti-Federalists were the original conservatives, not the Federalists.”

Please do. I’ve been saying for years that the Anti faction was right. Nearly everything they warned us about has come to pass.

“I am a strong advocate of Congress setting formula-based tariffs.”

Those 435 chuckleheads can’t agree on what day of the week it is.

“One set of fairly simple rules for all with rates based on reality.”

Simple rules from the US Congress? You need to put the bong down, dude.

I use to have a collection of the anti-federalist papers.

The book I had (have?), "Penguin Classics" version, IIRC, had both the Federalist and the Anti-Federalist in the same volume. I first read it in the 1980s; I thought even then that the "Anti" side had a valid point. The "checks and balances" only work if government is composed of honest patriots. As soon as government becomes composed of corrupt grifters and power-hungry petty tyrants, the checks and balances become mere window-dressing. In reality, the three (four?) branches collude to increase the size, scope, power, and cost of government.

The Federalist Society has been the most effective conservative organization in America for the last 25 years. That’s conservative, not MAGA, which are two different things.

I agree. Don’t forget that one of the justices used to be a dean of a fampous (famous and pompous) law school.

Trump is right

Leo who envisions hisself aquinas meets el cid poorly advised

Now we have a Catholic or Jewish court in a majority prod nation

The court Jews are lost cause

The Catholics have two decent and one promising

This is squarely on federalist society advice

And we’re stuck with it

Roll the dice with Catholics I’m sorry and I respect u

Pentecostals and trad white Baptist’s more reliable

And I promoted Barret

How to make sure it’s a Scalia or alito or Thomas

I dunno

I think the demographic makeup of the current courts, Congress, etc., should mirror the makeup of the Founding Fathers, percentage-wise.

Whom has he appointed that is a strict constitutionalist/originalist?
To me that would be more like Thomas, or especially the late Scalia.

In the modern conservative thought. However, the creation of an elitist federal judiciary with broad powers was the goal of Hamilton and the Federalists. From an Anti-Federalist perspective, modern "independent" judges are exactly what the founders wanted even if they would disagree with their speciific judicial policies.

Was the Federalist Society a big booster of Coney Barrett, Trump’s Sandra Day O’Connor?

In reality, the three (four?) branches collude to increase the size, scope, power, and cost of government.

That's simply human nature. Positions of power are sought by those who love power. Those who love power will always seek to expand power. This is true for every type of government. As usual, humans are the problem.

(Not that I'm advocating for ChatGPT as the next president, lol)

There was a time the R vs D con worked.

Until Trump came along and showed America and Americans Last was the bipartisan position in the Swamp and Deep State.
