U.S. consumers just delivered a clear message: they’re not as worried as the experts thought.
The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index jumped by 12.3 points in May, the largest monthly gain in four years, as Americans grew more upbeat about the economy, the job market, and their own financial prospects. The reading came in at 98.0, up sharply from April’s 85.7, and blew past all forecasts by economists.
Econoday’s survey had a range of forecasts from 84.0 to 91.3, with the consensus at 87.3.
It wasn’t just a bounce—it was a breakout.
The Expectations Index, which measures how consumers see the next six months, soared by the most since 2011. That surge suggests that despite months of gloomy headlines, Americans are seeing signs of improvement ahead.

I have some family members who are MSNBC devotees. Yesterday they were crying about how scared they are that the country is heading into a “Trump Depression” due to the dozen or so reasons MSNBC told them would cause a depression. The lunatic Left lives in a different world.
Yep, if you get your propaganda from the legacy media or msnbc/cnn - you probably need meds they hype Trump disaster so continually.
The city of Memphis is facing Hugh and series tax increases and layoffs of at least 25% (of bureaucrats). The fatigue has caught up with the cabal. This summer is going to carry rage and chaos in the air along with the usual gunfire, carjacking, robberies, assaults, and civic mayhem.
Yikes

Having money is like having syphilis-you don’t go telling everybody about it.
My neighbors and me have hired contracted services for policing, mosquito control, private schooling for our children, and sweep our own streets with a billy-goat machine.
Dow is up 600 at 12:04. Watching consumer confidence surge, despite a constant cascade of negative lies and BS, must be giving everyone in the media severe heartburn.
Embracing crime and chaos pays bigly for little to no labor output. Sure it cramps a few lifestyles of the political class, but that's what all the PR firm contracts are for.
Imagine how much greater of a boost if many of them were not listening to NPR!
“U.S. consumers just delivered a clear message: they’re not as worried as the experts thought.”
This is the newest figure but it’s just a continuation of the existing pattern. The press has been trying to keep everyone frightened but people know how their own lives are going.
Not a word about this on ABC News Radio. 🙄
