Sen. Rand Paul renewed his skepticism Tuesday of a U.S.-Mexico border wall, asserting that the Trump administration has not justified the $46 billion for construction included in the pending House budget reconciliation package.
The Kentucky Republican, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, made the comments at the tail end of an oversight hearing intended to evaluate President Donald Trump’s fiscal 2026 budget request on homeland security and immigration.
“So I know that the wall has a great symbolic value, but I think we should reassess … what we want to do and how much it costs,” Paul said.
Paul also openly considered whether construction of the border wall would even be necessary given that the Trump administration is claiming success over a 95 percent reduction of illegal encounters at the border, which the president’s allies have credited to his handling of immigration.
“So I’m not against or calling for no money, but I do think that the $46 billion is not justified unless we see something else from the administration,” Paul said.
Paul was unsatisfied with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s answers to his questions about costs, at one point asserting the numbers she provided were “way off.”
“I’m someone who’s not impressed and would have to see more detail as to where the rest of the money is going,” Paul said. “We can’t just throw $30 billion out there and say things cost a lot.”
Paul has expressed skepticism of the value of a border wall throughout his Senate career.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
The one man opposition!? [seemingly]
What’s your position on Rand? Are you still a Rand fan?
If he has an issue with how the money is being, that’s legitimate. However, if he is questioning the need to spend the money at all, I have to wonder who bought him?
For better or worse yes, though his goodwill round here is shot because of his opposition to various causes
Now this...
Rand Paul is a sad guy who thinks he has superior knowledge but is little appreciated. He has ideological conservatism coupled with no common sense or maybe no pragmatism. And, one look at his hair style screams narcissistic personality disorder. Don’t think that mess on his head is an accident or what he wakes up with every morning. Its carefully crafted and he thinks its his unique thing.
Has he ever voted for any aid to Ukraine? If so, how much?
I’m starting to get real tired of this blowhard.
Much of it should just go to deportations.
More and more, it seems he is compromised. Of course, to maintain appearance and political currency, all of his oppositions to MAGA causes are using ‘conservative principles’ as a shield so it’s not that obvious and his useful-idiotness remains.
Rand’s treason becomes more fully exposed on a near daily basis it seems.
Selling his soul required he had it in the first place.
yikes
...tough crowd...
Has he ever voted for any aid to Ukraine? If so, how much?
Xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Right. How much for the ukes
Plus how much did he vote to go to USAID?
Did Rand ever build anything beyond tooth models to know that the costs of building walls? The costs were proposed by a real builder, real estate magnate whose heart is on American first. Not a senator voted in because of his father’s name and never introduced any bill that passed. It means to a degree, he is a free-loader to other senators’ efforts.
This is example 897 illustrating how every @#$% losertarian I know in substance is an open border idiot.
The money for deportations should come from anything else not the walll.
Rand Paul was actually my original favorite for the nomination in early 2016, before Donald Trump became unstoppable.
But that was then, and nine years later everything has changed - politics has been turned upside down and inside out.
When Donald Trump won the nomination and the Presidency, the Deep State and RINO traitors came out of the shadows and unleashed holy hell on Trump and MAGA - and that has awakened in me the realization that we are in an epic war that transcends traditional partisan divisions.
I had no idea how deep the corruption was.
Now that I know, I am convinced that President Trump is our George Washington in The American Revolution II.
If there are politicians more fiscally conservative, or whatever - I don’t care - we have a war-time President right now, and Rand Paul should be doing everything he can to make President Trump win this war.
Rand Paul is blowing it. He doesn’t seem to understand we are at war and that Presidebt Trump is his Commander in Chief. He should put aside his Senator hat and put on his Patriot soldier hat.
he seems to
He is prob. one of the only senators that has never voted for aid to Ukraine or any aid to anyone in fact
So at least he’s consistent
