Trump rips Massie on the Hill: 'I think he's a grandstander'
Just the news ^

Posted on 05/20/2025 3:19:40 PM PDT by NoLibZone

President Donald Trump today on Capitol Hill expressed frustration over Republican holdouts for his "One Big, Beautiful Bill."

One Republican in particular found himself in Trump's cross hairs: Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who has criticized the bill.

Trump laid into him saying, "I don't think Thomas Massie understands government. I think he's a grandstander, frankly. He'll probably vote [no] - we don't even talk to him much. I think he should be voted out of office. I just don't think he understands government."

"If you ask him a couple of questions, he never gives you an answer... he just says: 'I'm a no.' He thinks he's gonna get publicity," Trump added.

Check his voting record. I’ll bet he voted for every CR.

Good question. They haven’t passed regular budgets in decades.

Irrelevant that he's for or against these spending bills.

It's too late to stop the madness. These R's and D's are merely fighting over the crumbs of the Republic. They simply don't care and want to enslave the kids with debt. You can't grow out of the his debt. R's and D's hate America.

People like Massie don’t understand the very simple concept (which originated with General George S. Patton , Jr. regarding battle plans) that the perfect is the enemy of the good. Politics sucks, but if you want to accomplish ANYTHING, you have to compromise to some extent. Pouting and just voting no makes you a child in an adult’s body.

Where does Kentucky dredge up these losers? Every one of their politicians is a screwball living in his own fantasy universe.

It’s incredible that Green New Deal spending remains in the bill. The pandemic is long over. We should not be running $2T annual deficits. The Trump and Biden era pandemic spending hikes need to be phased out.

Reagan had defense budgets at around 6% of GDP, ran deficits from 3% to 6%. Trump is signing up for a deficit of 7% with a military budget of 3%. We are weak and bloated with non-defense spending.

We are fortunate that Congress still has fiscal hawks ready to raise the alarm over this bloated budget. A 7% peacetime budget deficit is a travesty. It needs whittling down to the more reasonable 4% average of Trump’s pre-pandemic first term.

Trump was elected to get the budget deficit under control. Getting a 7% deficit budget passed is such a breach of trust, it’s reminiscent of the elder Bush backing down on “Read my lips. No new taxes”.

Some say the perfect is the enemy of the good. For a Republican, the good is a balanced budget and the perfect is a surplus. A 3% deficit is bad. A 7& deficit is putrid, and an economic crisis in the making.

Trump needs to pressure the lame Congress to cut spending, Big Time, Yugely and stop taxing SS.

Get Johnson/Thune to codify DOGE findings. [And no shortage of EOs.]

Congress is LAME. 2026 will send the GOPee a message.

The GOPee is not onboard for a successful future.

History. Ash-Heep.

I would vote against the bill.

Higher earners get a raw deal on Social Security payouts. To pay tax on top compounds the unfairness.

The overtime provision would tax two people that each work 50 hours a week and make the same amount differently.

Source? If you do a poll, I think you will find that most libertarians oppose transgender stuff.

Under your approach, you will always have the Department of Education. What you need is most Republicans to act like Massie and just vote no to funding it. Having Massie is a good start. We need half of Congress to vote like him.

It is a stupid idea for government to bribe people to have kids.

Perhaps $1,000 for finishing four years of high school would be a better idea.
