Apparently, nobody’s watching the watchmen.
Private security guards hired by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to staff subway stations, and act as deterrents to would-be turnstile hoppers, have instead been lending a helping hand to the Big Apple fare-beaters.
The Post recently observed Allied Universal Security Services guards inside the Herald Square station holding the emergency doors open on two different occasions to let a stream of scofflaws through.
...
Several commuters could be seen walking up to the gate, and exchanging words with the guard, who then let them in. Whenever the guard opened the door, other fare-evaders would make a dash for it.
“Whenever the gate opens, nobody wants to pay,” offered Allied Guard Romuald Zampou, 52, from The Bronx. “They say, ‘You’re not a cop,’ and you can’t stop it.
...
Commuters seeking a free ride come up with all sorts of excuses, according to Zampou, who works five eight-hour shifts a week, making approximately $800.
“My phone is busted, my card has no money, card doesn’t work, the clerk said I can go through,” Zampou recounted. “Two people go in on one swipe. Most people don’t want to pay.”
In 2022, the MTA quietly signed a multi-million dollar contract with Pennsylvania-headquartered Allied Universal Security Services for 500 guards charged with cracking down on turnstile jumping.
Today, the subway system boasts 1,000 armed and unarmed Allied guards. To date, the MTA has forked over $35 million to the world’s largest private security firm.
It is estimated toll evaders cost the MTA up to $800 million in annual revenue.

The higher-ups are all aware of what’s going on, and they’re doing nothing about it,
...
State and city politicians have long accused the MTA of mismanaging its massive $20 billion budget —

There could be legitimate reasons. Once when my wife and I were in NY, Grand Central was closed down due to a fire. Hundreds of us were detoured to another station on foot. Part of the journey required a subway. Under the circumstances the crowd we were with did not pay.
Back in a more sane and civilized time I remember buying the reasonably priced tokens to simply get through the turnstiles. Of course there were fare jumpers then but not as this level. Since then the drecks of society have exponentially increased. As a former resident of NY as it is today ‘eff NY’ and DemRats in charge and their voters. Termites All and expensive ones too.
Why would they put their life in jeopardy to tell some thug they have to pay to get on the train?
Because that is the line of work they chose and the job they signed up to do.
How is this $100 per hour? Looks like $20 per hour to me. What am I missing here?
Are they armed?
I don’t know, I didn’t apply for the job.
The black guard in the pictures at the article site doesn't appear to be armed as he high-fives one of the fare beaters.
I don’t know why you keep posting to me about guns, my post was about them doing the job they sought and won.
If you've forgotten, I asked you if they were armed. You replied you didn't know. I provided you with the answer to the question I originally asked you. Look upon it as a gift that enhances your knowledge of the situation.
I have no interest in their uniforms or equipment, my only interest was in pointing that that people should do the job they sign up for.
That we can agree on.
Yes, my post purely addressed post 4, and I never dreamed it would lead to all these posts about guns rather than what I posted.
So government contractors are shameless slackers just like most parasitic government employees. Pathetic losers.
Wow are you naive. LOL.
can we get a color percentage of these hires, next question is DEI hired?
I’m old enough to remember when busting fair beaters was a thing that found many were wanted for other crimes. I guess these days it’s unfair to target criminals.
But that clearly is not what is happening here...
