And for generations, none of them have bothered to show up to their first immigration hearing to do that.

They need to go to the first save country and claim asylum. If they can travel to the USA they could seek safety in many countries before here.

Yes you are correct which is why 95% of asylum claims are denied. That’s why they never show up for their court date.
