The European Union will adopt sanctions against Russia on May 20 in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's declining to attend face-to-face talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on May 15.
"The fact that President Zelensky nonetheless traveled to Istanbul is a significant gesture of goodwill. Putin did not show up — and by doing so, he alone placed himself in the wrong," Merz wrote on X.
"A new sanctions package is ready. We will adopt it on Tuesday in Brussels," Merz added.

He also didn’t say he was sending his D team. When he’s messing with Zelensky I don’t much care but now he’s messing with Trump and I have no time for the punk. India has oil production of about 550K bpd. They import 1.8 million bpd from Russia.
They consume much of that. And then forward refined products to the EU — that refining having taken place of the Russian crude. Sanctions on them will erase about 500K bpd of India-> Eu oil flow, which they likely can’t find elsewhere, because of 2 reasons:
There is no other source outside the Middle East and
The Middle East sources have to fuel China’s 6%/yr oil consumption growth
If talks break down, the EU is going to have more than sanctions to worry about

Friends on Putin can disappear. Just give Ukraine so intel and let them fight this war gorilla style. Filled with assassinations and poisoning. Why should Russias foreign minister be considered off limits?
Ukraine isn’t going to win this war if they fight by the rules.
I believe the EU is using the confiscated Russian assets to send Zelensky already.
