Good news for millionaires and billionaires: They are currently eligible for unemployment benefits, whether they need it or not. That has been true since 1964 when the Department of Labor determined unemployment is for all eligible workers no matter their income level.
In 2022, The Biden Administration paid unemployment compensation to 5,773 people earning $1 million or more, with nearly $58 million going to out-of-work millionaires. It is an average of nearly $10,000 per person.
In 2021, a COVID quarantine year with extra dough baked into unemployment, 14,972 people earning $1 million or more received unemployment compensation. The Biden Administration spent nearly $214 million keeping millionaires fed, paying an average of $14,200 each.
(As the Federalist previously reported, 2021 and 2022 were also banner years for unemployment fraud, in which fraudsters including prisoners and dead people placed multiple claims.)
Combine the years and individuals earning more than $1 million annually received more than $271 million in unemployment during the first two years of the Biden Administration.
These numbers are part of a report by the Congressional Research Service (CRS), prepared for Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, the Senate DOGE Caucus chair. CRS looked at tax returns and counted individuals who earned over $1 million and also received unemployment.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
These must be the "oligarchs" that AOC, Bernie, Pocohontas, the other socialist morons and their lapdogs in the media keeps screaming about.
How much did the Biden Crime Family get?
No laws were broken - check.
In 2021, a COVID quarantine year with extra dough baked into unemployment, 14,972 people earning $1 million or more received unemployment compensation.
But you're supposed to be angry that Biden's admin followed the law, as determined by the Department of Labor.
I would think we were better than resorting to the politics of envy. If the law was followed, it was legal. If the law is wrong, change the law. Stop bellyaching about people following the law. That's the Democrats' schtick.
And that’s just to Hunter.
“ How much did the Biden Crime Family get?”
10%
But But Trump accepted a plane from Qatar this is so darn corrupt says the commies..but giving MILLIONAIRES welfare checks, eh no biggie totally normal
Unemployment insurance is funded by payments made by employers. Why should employers pay into an insurance fund if their employees don’t get any benefit? The guy earning $1mm also paid probably $400,000 in state and local taxes. Why rub salt in the wound, he got fired, he’s entitled to unemployment insurance just like everyone else. What next, cut off his social security? It’s taxed anyway.
It happened while Biden was in office, not because Biden was in office. The law was followed. The law is wrong and Congress has not changed it. “Unemployment” benefits should, like many other “entitlements” look at assets, not just temporary loss of income while unemployed. Unemployment, like other entitlements should be based on need, as in household income and household assets.
I have no problem with this.
Social security should have been changed years ago to be based on income. Paying people Social Security that are worth millions at the time they apply for Social Security is absurd in my opinion.
An example would be if your net worth was over two or three million you no longer receive Social security. End of story. Don’t like it? Too bad so sad.
Between real estate holdings and retirement savings I could be considered a millionaire. The problem is liquid cash. I received unemployment for 26 weeks and it kept us afloat until I just recently found another job (60 years old in software, age discrimination is real).
Be careful about the word “millionaire”.
