Paul Tudor Jones on Tuesday said artificial intelligence (AI) posed an "imminent" security threat and that there was a 10% chance in the next two decades that AI would kill half of humanity.

Jones, the founder and chief investment officer of Tudor Investment, was speaking in a CNBC interview.

Jones told of an event he had attended which had a technology panel consisting of four of the leading modelers of popular AI models used today.

One of his takeaways from the panel was that "AI clearly poses an imminent threat, security threat - imminent - in our lifetimes, to humanity."

When AI becomes sentient then we’re F’d.

GIGO = AI But... the technology is improving a bit. I am tired of reading articles generated by AI, they are longwinded and lack rythmn, Even Hemingway writes better.

He's right in some ways but this piece is unnecessarily alarmist.

There's no doubt that AI represents an unprecedented intellectual leap—exploding both our ability to solve problems and our capacity for evil.

But, instead of panic, we need to come to grips with its dangers. And that is, humanity needs to very quickly—and I mean VERY QUICKLY—learn how to manage this revolutionary if not evolutionary technology.

Safeguards, not panic.

A bit of an exaggeration!

AI is a tool, how we use depends on us.

Though I think it will obsolete quite a few different jobs.

Plumbers, electricians and handymen, though are safe. White collar jobs not so much.

The very important degree of our awareness is how to tell whether we need to be sufficiently alarmist and overly alarmist and it may be impossible to tell in time to avoid troubles.

Why do we need AI to kill us when we’ve got Bill Gates?

When AI becomes sentient then we’re F’d.

We’ll be in serious trouble long before AI becomes sentient—if we don’t get control of how it’s used.

Right now, the real danger isn’t AI itself, but what unhinged or malicious people can do with it. AI gives power to amplify both genius and madness.

For example, there's no doubt that many if not most Democrats would love to send all those it hates (and, boy-oh-boy, do they hate) to the gas chambers.

AI is entering the world when some not insignificant numbers of people have gone bat guano crazy. I saw a video yesterday of a blue-haired girl on a college campus saying that all fascists should be killed. When asked what a fascists is, she said, "I don't know, I'm not into politics, I just know all fascists should be killed."

Imagine if people like that are weaponized by someone who uses AI to develop a very contagious but deadly virus.

“AI is a tool, how we use depends on us.”

No exaggeration at all. We are training it to train us. And once we have enslaved ourselves with it there will be no going back, it will be too late and we will be mindless controlled Zombie Slaves...

“Right now, the real danger isn’t AI itself, but what unhinged or malicious people can do with it.”

And what they are already doing with it...

“AI gives power to amplify both genius and madness.”

It is designed to remove human genius and increase madness. It is designed to remove our minds and souls and enslave us.

Just like the dependency on GPS, by 2030 humans will not be able to function without it. They will not be able to self reason and will be completely mentally dependent on it. It is already happening. I see folks even here on this board consulting AI for very simple problems that are extremely basic and rudimentary to reason out.

I use it for research as I’m writing my historical novel. What used to take weeks and months in a library now takes 10 seconds. I do feel a bit squeamish using it. Not sure if it’s right or if I’m a part of the problem by utilizing it.

“ Plumbers, electricians and handymen, though are safe.”

If massive number of white collar professionals end up unemployed, who the heck is going to be able to hire and pay tradesmen to do work ?

Even trades are not safe as robots are being designed to replace much of the labor on construction sites. Humans will still be needed but very few and for less hours.

True.

But panic is never the answer to any problem. Cool heads may not always prevail—but at least they calmly try every option before going down with the Titanic. 😉

It is designed to remove human genius and increase madness. It is designed to remove our minds and souls and enslave us.

AI isn’t “designed” to remove genius or enslave us—it reflects how we choose to use it. It's a tool and like any powerful tool, it can either sharpen minds or dull them, depending on the user.

People also said the same thing about calculators, spellcheck, and even books once upon a time. Tools can make us lazy—or they can free us up to think more deeply by handling the busywork.

Dependency isn’t inevitable—it’s a choice. Blaming the tool misses the point.

I suggest you become adept at using it—push it to its limits—and then draw an informed conclusion.

I use it extensively for analyzing the stock market and researching companies I invest in. It’s dramatically expanded my research capacity. You still have to double-check its output like you would with any assistant, but my productivity has increased tenfold.
