The US embassy in Kyiv has issued a statement, warning US citizens in Kyiv of a "potentially significant" air attack that may occur at "any time over the next several days."
Shortly afterwards, Russia announced a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for the airspace around the Kasputin Yar Test Site, stating that the airspace will be closed for a 22-hour period from 9am on May 12 to 7am on May 13.
The Kasuptin Yar Test Site is where Russia last launched an Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile from. Interestingly, before that same strike, the US embassy in Kyiv issued a similar warning beforehand.
In the coming hours Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz and Donald Tusk are in Kiev so I don’t expect any Russian missiles in the short term.
Maybe they are the target. Could be interesting.
Starmer, Macron, Fred Mertz and the Polish guy. Not worth it IMHO.
No American has any business being in Kiev unless they are a traitor.
First Russian to Second Russian: "No Balls!"
They are (or were) in Lviv. They’re too chicken to go to Kiev.
Oops. I take that back. They reportedly left Lviv for Kiev.
FYI NOTAMs are not a purely FAA thing. They are mandated by ICAO and have an international format, which the Russians are following. Everyone does.
Don’t worry, Putin has said late last year that he would give a one hour warning to get out of Dodge if he does mass attacks with Oreshniks.
Hey well, maybe the pay is really really good. What are the odds you will be near a missile strike anyway? Just stay away from obvious targets and your already slim odds increase even greater.
Tass has them headed for Kiev...

Turn the key!
That scene from War Games featured Michael Madsen as the junior officer and John Spencer as the senior officer who couldn’t launch a nuclear strike from the silo out of conscience, both of whom went onto some notoriety and recognition by wider audiences. Good film. I’d piss on a spark plug if I thought we could get films like that again.
The Oreshink is reported to be like a small nuclear bomb without the radiation, depending on what warheads they fit it with. Each missile has 6 warheads. I've heard they have produced around 150 of them since the one they used last year.
So does Reuters. There’s no way the Russians will Oreshnik Kiev while they’re there.
Yeah, I asked Grok and it said each warhead could have 6 more for a total of 36. Sounds nasty. The main target could get hit but some of those warheads may stray to random locations. Not exactly a moral warfare weapon. Increase the risk of collateral damage. Maybe it’s good against a column of tanks or planes on the tarmac, but not good for targeting.
One of my favorites is Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles.

First Russian to Second Russian, "No Balls".
Yup, the US worried about that when we the A-bombed non-military cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They picked those targets because they were untouched by war and they wanted to see the beautiful effects of the bombs under pristine conditions.
First Russian to Second Russian, "No Balls".
Lol
Second Russian to First Russian: (Slavic shrug) Eh, why should we do those Brits and French any favors?
