Europe throws support behind Ukraine special tribunal to prosecute Russia

Europe threw its support on Friday behind a special tribunal to prosecute President Vladimir Putin and other senior Russian officials for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, a show of unity on a day when Moscow marks its "victory day". At a meeting in Ukraine's western city of Lviv, ministers from almost 20 European nations gave their political sign-off to the tribunal, welcoming the completion of the technical work required to set it up.

The tribunal will be set up within the framework of the Council of Europe, the continent's leading human rights watchdog that was formed after World War Two to uphold rights and the rule of law. European nations have stepped up their efforts since U.S. President Donald Trump authorised sanctions in February against the International Criminal Court, created to prosecute war crimes when member states are unwilling or unable to do so themselves.

Russia denies its troops have committed atrocities in Ukraine since its forces launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022. Ukraine says Russian troops have committed many thousands of war crimes. Foreign ministers from the so-called 'core group' of at least 37 countries signed the "Lviv statement", a document marking the conclusion of work done to draft the necessary legal instruments for the tribunal.

The tribunal could start operating next year. "This tribunal will ensure that those most responsible for the aggression against Ukraine are held accountable," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas told reporters Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said it was a moral duty for Europe to hold Russia accountable for the war. "A strong tribunal for the crime of aggression can - and must - make any potential aggressor think twice," he said in a video address to the meeting.

So Europe wants war with Russia. Notice they set up no tribunals against Al Qaeda or ISIS.

It's getting to the point where the EU Lilliputians need to be smoked, like annoying flies and skeeters.

Europe and the US never properly tracked down and prosecuted all the Nazis they should have. Instead they all hired known war criminals to spy on their enemies.

Normally, you get to have tribunals after you win the war.

I sure hope that Trump knows he’s next, given the behavior of the Europeans.

Great. Then, also prosecute Slick Willy and NATO for wrecking Serbia.

And 0dumbo, Hitlery, McCain, Sarkozy, and David Cameron for destroying Libya (and allowing ISIS to run amuck).

And every EU government for ignoring citizens massacred by Islamist 'migrants'. And so on...

I suggest the "Special" "Tribunal" set up their offices right next door to Zelensky's office in Kiev.

That would be Special!

I have a list of people that I want to prosecute as well. Most of them are Democrat politicians who have been conspiring against our country’s future. Let’s start some tribunals! Yeah!!!

The Europeans love grandiose but meaningless gestures.

Having no effective military of their own, the Brussels-London globalists wanted the USA to confront, and if necessary, fight Russia for them.

the US deep-state and satanic-Atlanticists across dozens of “multi-lateral” institutions, govt agencies and think tanks - people like Tony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, and Victoria Nuland were fully on board

You see their apologists and propagandists here on FR to this day.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said it was a moral duty for Europe to hold Russia accountable for the war.”

He should be tried for treason.

Basically, it's the same American foreign policy since Versailles with a lone break from the world's affairs between the World Wars.

Europeans don’t have to win the war.

They are inherently superior to and more intelligent than people in other parts of the world so others must do as they say.

If Russia doesn’t comply they will order the United States to fight their war for them until Russia yields.

Sarcasm of course.

Europeans don’t have to win the war.

These European tribunals are previews of what's in store for their own citizens: trials without defendants, where prosecuting evidence can't be cross-examined.

How ironic considering how many war crimes Ukraine has been guilty of during this war.

And, this while EU countries ban popular opposition candidates, threaten to ban opposition parties, imprison citizens for posting memes and arrest pro-life grandmothers praying near abortion clinics.

The hypocrisy is revolting.
