House Republicans are trying to find the right cocktail of tax reductions and new revenue to pass President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" by Memorial Day.
No taxes on tips is politically popular and is a key campaign promise of the president, but a coalition of deficit hawks could block that if the GOP fails to find revenue to cover the gap.
That is why the president pushed House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., this week to raise taxes on the super rich.
Trump is considering allowing the rate on individuals making $2.5 million or more to increase by 2.6%, from 37% to 39.6%, Fox News Digital reported Thursday.
Such a move would resonate with working-class Americans who elected the president. However, many conservatives have signed pledges for years against raising any taxes.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Stupid effing idea. No tax raises on anybody ever. Class warfare doesn’t make anybody but losers happy.
And terrible for the economy.
It's not a bad idea if Trump wants to lower taxes on the Middle Class while he is raising taxes slightly on the Super Wealthy. By the way, 1% in this country went all in for Biden/Harris.
I think Trump has caught on to the complete shift in the base of the parties. He knows that the great majority of people in those tax brackets vote for and financially support Democrats.
This is very interesting to watch.
So... President Trump is RAISING taxes?
At least he didn’t say “read my lips” LOL
Are small businesse owners going to be hit by rising tax burdens?
Even Bush 2 CUT taxes.
Ughh
I do NOT believe this story.
Only oligarchs who play ball with the Democrats get to be billionaires these days.
He should lower taxes across the board. Reagan’s top rate was 28%. Trump wants 40%. It is bad for the economy and doesn’t make anybody happy.
Which is why I'm for it. Country Club Republicans (Dubya/Romney voters) are all with the Democratic Party.
Why not? They vote with the rats.
Why should we do a favor for all the billionaires. So that way, Soros will get more money to donate to the Democratic Party?
populism and conservatism often overlap - particularly when the established governing political ideology is left-wokeism or especially, neo-marxism.
But not always.
Agree- 1000%....plus this will make liberal heads explode- again!!!
More billionaires backed Kamala than backed Trump (83 to 52).
Exactly the point I was making.
Trump could get rid of carried interest loophole.
While I don’t agree with this plan, it would completely neutralize the Democrat refrain that he’s all about “the rich”.
Does this bill include no taxes on Social Security?
I think I could stomach this if the middle class gets a tax break AND it leads to a balanced budget - with a little left over to reduce the deficit.
But as we all know, Congress (D and R alike) will use any tax increase to just spend more.
