I’d disagree. It’s not terrible, so much as underfunded. If it did a WW2-style economic mobilization, it might win in Ukraine. But Ukraine’s supporters might follow suit, so Putin figures he’ll just soldier on at a spending pace Russia can sustain for many years, hoping that the West will tire.
Russia simply lacked the budget to fight a US-style war. On the first day of the invasion of Iraq, the US flew 1700 sorties. In 24 days of the initial invasion of Ukraine, Russia flew 1400 sorties. Russia accumulated a ton of hardware, some obsolete, over decades, but doesn’t have the funding to run all of it simultaneously in a high tempo war.
Even adjusted for low Russian incomes, the $50b it spent prewar was nowhere enough to match the $800b US budget. Putin is finding out that mass is important, but his budget precludes that mass.

in all honesty you could have just looked into the war of attrition between Israel and Egypt from 1968-1973 to know that US military systems and equipment were much more superior then Russian systems on the battlefield.
especially for all of the “I am an American Firster, what do we get out of sending military equipment and aid to Israel” crowd

Why are so many in the pro globalist pro neocon wing of FR saying Russia will roll over Europe next then? Its clear the Russians are limited , conventionally speaking, but have enough to hold what theyve already conquered…. And the longer Zelensky insists on silly caveats to end the war, the more likely it is Russia will take even more land.

And now, with their financial reserves running out, their civilian economy in tatters, Gazprom losing money, and oil prices low; they are on the verge of lacking the budget to continue even a Russian-style war.

And I'm saying that as a man married to a native Muscovite who once proudly wore the red "Young Pioneer" scarf while marching in parades. Have many relatives (through marriage) still living there. And deeply regret the needless loss of Russian lives in this unconscionable invasion of Ukraine.

Is it propaganda(IE Fake or false) just because one doesn’t agree with it
Though I will state that knowing what is the truth is a very difficult task.
Is it a drone strike or “falling debris”?….
Is it about Ukrainian nazis or Putin’s dreams and desires?
Is a reported 5%gdp growth real and even if so is GDP built to blow up good for the country?

Yep. For all their fear-mongering that Russia is the enemy we have to worry about, they also claim it is weak and unable to manage even a single war with a “small country”. Can’t have it both ways.
