Case: 25-1211201
Date: Thursday, May 1, 2025
Time: 6:59 p.m.
Location: 2001 E. Riverside Drive.
Victim (deceased): Marcos Valerio-Rodriguez, Hispanic male, 5/27/87
On Thursday, May 1, 2025, at approximately 6:59 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers and Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) responded to a call that reported someone was shot at the Shell station located at 2001 E. Riverside Drive. Officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive man with apparent gunshot wounds to his torso on the ground in the parking lot. Another man and a woman were also on scene. The injured male was later identified as Marcos Valerio-Rodriguez. Valerio-Rodriguez was pronounced deceased on scene.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed Valerio-Rodriguez arrived intoxicated at his girlfriend’s place of employment, which is located next to the Shell station. A verbal argument broke out between Valerio-Rodriguez and his girlfriend outside of the business. Eventually, she went back inside her workplace and Valerio-Rodriguez left the scene. A short time later, Valerio-Rodriguez returned to his girlfriend's workplace and banged on the door. A male bystander intervened, at which point in time Valerio-Rodriguez pulled a knife on him. The bystander then pulled a gun and shot Valerio-Rodriguez. Multiple witnesses were on scene and confirmed the order of events. The male bystander was cooperative and interviewed by Homicide detectives.
No charges are being filed at this time. This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public’s safety.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 22nd homicide of 2025.
This qualifies as a form of "Domestic Defense".
This sounds like a fully justified defensive shooting.
ICE can scratch him from their “to do” list.
“This is an isolated incident and there is no (longer a) threat to the public’s safety”.
Thanks to an armed citizen.
Kind of a FAFO moment.
No it isn't.
There are plenty just like this murderer running around loose in our country right now - thanks to Joe Biden's open border policy and lefty DAs not punishing criminals.
Good thing this was in Texas and not somewhere like California - no one would intervene, with good reason, and the perp would have been let loose by a lefty DA.
Where did you get the idea he was on ICE’s “to-do” list in the first place?
Never take a knife to a gunfight.
“Valerio-Rodriguez, a Hispanic male” what else would you find in east Austin.
Austin’s, Soros bought and paid for, DA is very upset that no Texas grand jury will remand this obvious self defense case to trial.
I plead guilty, I was ethnic profiling.
Remember, all stereotypes are rooted in truth.
“Rooted in truth” is one thing, but a direct statement is quite another.
