President Trump removed Mike Waltz as national security adviser because the Floridian would be a “better UN ambassador,” Vice President JD Vance said Thursday — arguing that the former congressman’s nomination to rep the US in Turtle Bay could be considered a “promotion.”
“We brought Mike on to do some serious reforms of the National Security Council. He has done that,” Vance told Fox News “Special Report” host Bret Baier. “I like Mike. I think he’s a great guy. He’s got the trust of both me and the president, but we also thought that he’d make a better UN ambassador as we get beyond this stage of the reforms that we’ve made to the National Security Council.”

“I think you can make a good argument that it’s a promotion,” the veep added.
Trump announced earlier Thursday that he was nominating Waltz to be ambassador to the United Nations, which will require Senate confirmation.

I could tell Trump was livid with Waltz a few weeks ago, after that Goldberg connection mishap, but that was not the best time to change or fully eliminate .Niwsomeone’s job duties. Now, after that 100 Days in office marker, is better. Trump obviously likes Mike Waltz and still wants him within the Administration, just not in the original job.
Ric Grenell should be Nat Sec Advisor
I don’t like Waltz. wish he’d be out of the loop completely.
The all-time strangest use of the UN Ambassador position was when President Johnson wanted to reward his pal Abe Fortas with a seat on SCOTUS. Unfortunately, there were no vacancies, so he induced Arthur Goldberg to resign to take the UN position. I have always wondered what that discussion between Johnson and Goldberg was like. Serving on SCOTUS is the pinnacle of achievement for American lawyers, and once on that bench, many serve until they are absolutely dead. To leave after 3 years in order to take a consolation prize like U.N. Ambassador is pretty unusual.
He will need to get through Senate confirmation hearing first.
This just opens up Signalgate to headline news, again, Dems will be out for blood in grilling him.
Nicely parked.
I don’t know about Trump but I can’t imagine the other people on the Signal chat Waltz set up were too thrilled about it.
My guess is Waltz lost the confidence of his peers to do the job.
I guess if he didn’t, he wouldn’t have nominated him for the post.

Yep - he screwed up - bigly, but it wasn’t an intentional sabotage, and he has useful skills.
I was laughing when I heard about this appointment.
I wonder if Waltz knows....
One draft of the WH budget out there (no source, just remember seeing it) has us paying zero dues to the UN in the next fiscal year.
That would be hilarious.
What I recall about President Johnson, and read in biographies, he was extremely authoritarian, and aggressive in getting things done his way. I can easily imagine Johnson either directly or indirectly, threatening Judge Goldberg with some very undesirable outcome if he didn’t “voluntarily” leave the Supreme Court. I was about to say, such a scenario could never happen today, due to the Internet, then I remembered the 4 years most of the media pretended Joe Biden was competent.
I was looking for the bee publication.
Maybe that is how he leaves the administration? Sorry Mike, couldn’t get you thru Congress, bye
Yep Ric was my first choice. But I think Trump is likely better utilizing him as a roving trouble shooter.
Ha. That’s a good theory.
Thrown under the Senate confirmation bus, it could work.
I wonder if Grenell always feel passed over?
I think the trouble shooting job is pretty important.
✅ok
