Ukraine has signed a deal with the United States, giving the U.S. access to Ukraine's rare minerals as it continues to work with the Trump administration in an effort to end its three-year war with Russia.
Ukrainian Economy Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko flew to Washington, D.C., Wednesday to help finalize the deal.
"On behalf of the Government of Ukraine, I signed the Agreement on the Establishment of a United States–Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund. Together with the United States, we are creating the Fund that will attract global investment into our country," she wrote on X.
Upon taking office, President Donald Trump said he wanted Ukraine’s rare earth materials as a condition for continued U.S. support in the war. He described it as reimbursement for the billions of dollars of U.S. military assistance given to Ukraine.
The agreement will establish the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund to help accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
"This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump Administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine over the long term," Bessent said in a statement. "President Trump envisioned this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to show both sides’ commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine. And, to be clear, no state or person who financed or supplied the Russian war machine will be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine."

BREAKING: US, Ukraine sign rare earth minerals deal after months of talks LIVE NOW: FOXNEWS 4-30-2025 6:30 p.m. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAuzVNfTBNI
"The U.S. and Ukraine have signed a rare earth minerals deal after months of negotiations, the Treasury Department confirmed Wednesday.
"On April 30, the United States and Ukraine signed an agreement to establish the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund. In recognition of the significant financial and material support that the people of the United States have provided to the defense of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion, this economic partnership positions our two countries to work collaboratively and invest together to ensure that our mutual assets, talents, and capabilities can accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery."
How many BILLIONS does Ukraine owe us?
The overwhelming majority of MAGA do not support funding Ukraine in its war against Russia, but polls show the left does though.
And the Ukraine mineral deal will mean taxpayers dollars go to nation building, big business will get the lucrative contracts in return, Ukrainians will get the overwhelming majority of the jobs involved in the rare earth minerals and ore extraction, and no money will go back in the pockets of the American taxpayers in return.
Sounds like Trump, like the Europeans, wants to see Ukraine wiped off the map as a country. Oh well, at least it all ends without WW3, which is all that I ever wanted.
Despite what the subtitle on Fox says, there is nothing in the article that says the US will continue to support Ukraine in its war with Russia. It’s an economic agreement only. You can’t conduct the reconstruction of Ukraine and its economy if the war is allowed to continue, nor if the United State is fueling that war. There’s no sense in that.
If I never ever hear anything more about that corrupt, hellhole of a country, I’ll be happy.
As for the money grubbing, smurf nazi ingrate, I hope Russian operatives catch up to him and slip arsenic in his horilka.
Never has so much blood, treasure, effort and time been wasted on such insignificance.
Of course, commercial terms on how the profits are distributed are still TBD and it remains to be seen how excited the EU carpet bagging rip off artists and strip miners are going to be to invest in what amounts to an expensive, high risk capitol intensive investment with less than stellar margins combined with a long term ROI payoff geared to fund the reconstruction of the Ukraine
My bet is the Ukraine may soon be begging for Trump to revisit the deal under its original terms,
I’m skeptical about how easy it will be to access those minerals. I heard that years ago, Russia had looked into it but didn’t consider it cost effective.
This article is the first time I have seen 10 yrs expiration mentioned.
The phrasing on the US portion of funding is not clear in the precise words, unlike what Fox concludes here. The phrasing suggests aid already provided fulfills the US obligation to add to the fund.
Overall, since there is nearly nothing there, I can’t see how anything can be harvested in just 10 yrs.
They don’t have any rare earth metals. study was done by SOVIET UNION.
I’m skeptical about how easy it will be to access those minerals. I heard that years ago, Russia had looked into it but didn’t consider it cost effective.>>> There is nothing there there.
Within the scope of American history, very few things are ever repaid.
So when taxpayer dollars were sent over via the federal gov’t to Ukraine, and they pay it back with rare earth minerals that still possess a dollar value, will any of that value make it’s way back into the pockets of the taxpayers, as private big business, getting the “rights” to mine the rare earth’s, are sure going to make big $ in this nation building, reciprocal deal that US taxpayers will foot the bill for?
/rhetorical question.
You freaks are crying.
“You freaks are crying.”
You’ll be crying now that Odessa will go to Russia.
Nowhere does the agreement call out “continued support” for Ukraine.
This marks a shift and an air of desperation.
I’m not quite sure if its desperation by Zelensky or Trump although most likely it is the little fella.
Personally, I think supporters on the outside of the process will read too much into it.
It would have been significant if it had been signed when the little fella came to DC, but he wanted to make a scene and was encouraged to do so.
The deal means nothing if both sides don’t reach a peace agreement and I don’t think either side wants the war to stop.
I still think the likelihood is we walk away during the fall.
I have only one thought on that contradictory 'headline':
There is nothing there there.

That’s even worse. I wonder if someone advised President Trump badly, or if this is part of his peace negotiation strategy.
