New York state legislators got one step closer to legalizing assisted suicide for terminally ill people on Tuesday.
The state Assembly, following nearly five hours of emotional debate, passed the controversial “Medical Aid in Dying Act” 81-67, with around 20 Democrats breaking ranks to oppose the controversial measure.
“Each and every life has value,” Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R-Saratoga), one of the legislation’s opponents, said on the Assembly floor.
“Progress may not be on a straight line and will look different to each of us, but this idea of giving up and dying is not excelsior, ever upward. It’s incredibly sad,” she said, referring to the state motto.

Good luck with this, New Yorkers. Today they swear you need informed consent to do it. Give it a year and they’ll be using this law to pull the plug on anyone whose continued existence is inconvenient for the family or state.
Hollywood and production TV is prepping the masses for a zombie world with what they call entertainment! No surprise here.....
Democrat NY politicians can murder more people than Cuomo in the next scamdemic.
OMG!!!! How sicko can politicians get!?
Won’t make it a felony to traffic a 16 or 17 year old for sex in California, but pass assured suicide in NY.. democrats are just evil, period.
I’m old enough now I feel I can comment on this.
I’m also somewhat religious.
When your body cannot continue on it’s own PURELY due to natural causes, we should let nature take it’s course, when there is no chance of survival.
If the damage is due to an incident and there is no chance of recovery, make them as comfortable as possible and let nature take its course.
What I’m saying is don’t pour all that medical money into a lost cause, Physically WE ALL die!
But we all have an eternal soul( my religious belief).
I’’m not looking forward to dying, but I sure as heck don’t
want to waste away in some institution being artificially
kept alive waiting for that time. Nor would I want to starved of water and food like Teri Schavo.
just keep them warm and confortable, Drugs are cheap.
Amen
"Emotional debate"
I think I see the problem.
The MADA act. Make America Dead Again.
so are the Woke terminally ill?
For a state that has more red counties than blue, one has to wonder why the NY State Legislature consists of a more than 2-1 RAT majority in both the Assembly and Senate.
NY is a rogue state controlled by evil people and should be boycotted by all.
We already have a structure in place, for example the living will. You tell the doctor if you want a breathing machine, CPR, and any other medical interventions or not.
This kind of legislation is nothing but a precursor for legalized murder.
The only way they get it passed is with emotional appeal, nuanced lies and careless thinking.
The line forms where?
Gang banger shoots other gang banger
“Technically officer, it was an assisted suicide”.
Most people don’t have the money to get a “living will”
written and recorded.
If this is the bill...

There are some huge loopholes in here that would allow for abuse by family, caregivers, medical providers, the state...
I don’t think they realize we are all terminally ill. We will all die, but only when it’s our time to go. No sooner or later.
If you want to know the answer, it is because in 1964, SCOTUS, in Reynolds v. Sims, ruled that, in yet another gift of the 14th Amendment, states that modeled their governments after the Federal example were violating the 14th’s equal protection clause. So instead of state senates being based on geography, state senates had to also be based on population.
A rational person might well ask what is the point of having a state senate then, if it just a smaller copy of the state house of representatives.
Libs have been arguing that the Senate should be changed for the same reason, but for the fact that Article V of the Constitution says depriving states of equal representation in the Senate cannot be the subject of an Amendment.
