Christianity (as both a cultural force and a religion) laid the moral, philosophical, and social foundation for the only true alternative to tyranny ("top-down" government): the recognition that every individual is sacred, every ruler is accountable, and no human institution is ultimate.
The Greeks invented the concept of "democracy" (broadly defined), but Christianity made it a moral imperative.
China cannot innovate. No one wants to stick his or her neck out on something that might not work because they could lose everything or be ostracized. We should remember what happened when the communists took over China. The killed all the smart people. Basically anyone who word glasses was killed because that was an easy way to determine who the smart people were. They have genetically selected for lower IQ individuals in their society, which complicates their ability to innovate.
They manufacture products to existing designs and specifications and they even build the factories to other people’s specifications. Once the factory is built, they run a day shift while the company management watches then they run the factory all night making identical products for off brand sales. This way they make substandard brand name products and knock offs that are every bit as good as the brand names.
Yep. That's it.
The same thing is said about bureaucrats. Bureaucrats are risk-averse because there's nothing to be gained by taking risks...and everything to lose if they don't work out.
I am not sure what the complaint is. Having a pc and cell phone opens up the world to everyone.
I think having a cell phone that I can take with me anywhere and make and receive calls and get on the internet to get any information I want is pretty darn cool.
I think people are interacting now more then ever. So maybe not in person but that was never the case as you only run into so many people during the day, but you posting at a web site can be seen by many more people and who can reply to you. If they agree with you then they are brilliant, if not then they are muddle headed and you can ignore them. Not easy to if in person...
As for handwriting that is the socialists running our schools who have stopped requiring it.
You can download exercises and practice yourself along with math skills. Or history lessons both written and showing video.
I type most everything and do quite a lot. I type more then I would ever hand write because it is so much quicker and you can correct your mistakes -— except here at Free Republic!!
Need an Edit button please!!
Remember typewriters where you make a mistake and you have to retype everything?
I think people are smarter in many ways as information is so easily available. No more having to buy a book when you can read a webpage or watch a youtube video on how to cook or fix the car etc.
Not everyone is just looking at cat videos which can be mesmerizing.... Have you ever come across say a youtube or tiktok video site and that page is an endless scroll of more videos of all sorts of content? You see more information in a day then before the cell phone and computer. You are exposed to more news and entertainment then ever before.
