News Release
WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer is urging governors to comply with President Trump’s directives ensuring tax dollars are not spent on encouraging or rewarding illegal immigration. In a letter sent today, the Secretary reminds all states that failing to fulfill existing legal obligations will result in the loss of federal funding through the Title III UI administrative grant.
“Our nation’s unemployment benefits exist solely for workers who are eligible to receive them,” Secretary Chavez-DeRemer wrote. “Unemployment benefits are not a handout for those in our country illegally.”
The Secretary’s reminder comes after the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration sent a letter last week to state unemployment insurance administrators, urging them to use the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SAVE immigration database. Offered at no cost because of an action by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, this system will ensure states can verify the immigration status of individuals who file claims and indicate whether they are U.S. citizens.
“I am committed to ensuring that the U.S. Department of Labor enforces the law and will personally work to safeguard Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars. I look forward to working with you on this effort,” Secretary Chavez-DeRemer concluded in the letter.
The best thing that could ever happen is for states to lose or reject federal funding.
We are the Home of the BRAVE and the Land of the FREE.
We were birthed by the Declaration of INDEPENDENCE not the sniveling whine of dependence on man and his gov’t.
Beautiful, finally someone is weaponizing the govt in the right way!

Dear Governor Kay Ivey,
As President Trump laid out in his recent Presidential Memorandum “Preventing Illegal Aliens from Obtaining Social Security Act Benefits” and Executive Order 14218 “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Open Borders”, it is critical that we ensure American taxpayer dollars do not go towards encouraging or rewarding illegal immigration to the United States.
Our nation’s unemployment benefits exist solely for workers who are eligible to receive them. To qualify for unemployment, one must be able and available to work, actively seeking work, and be legally authorized to accept employment in the United States. Unemployment benefits are not a handout for those in our country illegally. I understand that my colleague, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, wrote to you last week informing you that your state can now use the DHS immigration database, SAVE, at no cost. This important system helps verify the immigration status of benefit claimants and is a critical tool in the toolbox in ensuring that illegal immigrants do not access our nation’s unemployment benefits. As a result of this change, I instructed the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to send a letter to all State Unemployment Insurance Administrators urging them to immediately start using SAVE for every initial and continued claim filed by an individual who indicates that they are not a U.S. citizen. This letter also reminds states of their existing legal obligations regarding immigrant access to unemployment benefits and that noncompliance with these existing obligations will result in the loss of the state’s Title III UI administrative grant.
I am committed to ensuring that the U.S. Department of Labor enforces the law and will personally work to safeguard Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars. I look forward to working with you on this effort.
Sincerely,
Lori Chavez-DeRem
The best thing that could ever happen is for states to lose or reject UNCONSTITUTIONAL federal funding.
If they want medical care they should pay for it ,BEFORE
Replace ‘could’ with ‘will’ and you got something.
District court judge to issue restraining order against this in 5 . . . 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . . .
The slimy, deserve to be launched into the sun leftists will do one of the followng:
1) Get one of their corrupt judges (which aren’t?) to issue a worthless ‘legal’ order to stop the stop.
2) Use one of the N ‘alternate’ deep state funding sources to pay off the illegals (to vote for them, of course).
The only thing in the multiverse more deserving of war the left is...well...there is nothing.
Enforcing the law. Imagine that.
Interestingly, unemployment “benefits” are not actually benefits that the employee paid for. They are an extra tax on employers which can be given, at the discretion of the state, to former employees. The state is parsimonious with it because they consider it, “their” money.
Absolutely!!!

Message: According to DOGE, 6,300 illegals on the terror watchlist received Medicaid and unemployment insurance, social security benefits, and food stamps.
A presidential memorandum signed on April 15 directed multiple federal agencies to take steps to prevent ineligibles, such as illegal immigrants, from receiving social security benefits. An executive order issued Feb. 19 asked agencies to ensure “no taxpayer-funded benefits go to unqualified aliens” and to “prevent taxpayer resources from acting as a magnet and fueling illegal immigration to the US.”
The Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts have been met with challenges:
<><>a federal judge blocked stripping federal tax dollars from “sanctuary cities.”
<><>State and local govts blocked local officials from enforcing federal laws wrt immigration.
<><>over a dozen cities filed suit over cessation of federal funding for “sanctuary cities.”
Yep
Texas is more so than about any other. Especially when you look at the growth and scale of our economy.
CA’s GDP is larger, not my much, and not for long. CA is riding the ChiCom Train, but that is going to hit wall.
Yes
Yes. That is how it began.
