✝️✝️🙏🙏🛐🛐
I’m not a Catholic but I wonder if there are any good Catholics on FR that praise and mourn him.
(That five word phrase is a keeper from the Holy Father that I have used many times).
Not everything he did was awful. Much of what he did that is good isn’t high on the list of what I value, and even what I do value in some ways, the bulk of it I find hard.
His letter on the 1600th anniversary of the death of St. Jerome was good.
He will help theologians to be more careful in distinguishing with what level of authority a Pope is speaking.
Somebody has to be the worst Pope ever—but I’m not going to pontificate on Francis being that person.
He had a tough job at a tough time that I would not want, and the dead deserve our prayers-—and the more they are to our distaste, the more we should pray for them
LOL, I have a list! Pelosi, Biden, Crockett, Letisha James, Hakeem Jeffries, Kamala, Hillary, Rashida, well, to make it easier, every democrat, muslim, liberal for starters!
Yep!! 100%
I thought I read yesterday that he passed away.
A fine list!
May his Memory be Eternal!
With regard to the Prophecy of the Popes, I note that analysis is divided between those who believe the final references indicate two popes to follow Benedict XVI (who was said to be Glory of the Olive). There are passages indicating a time of persecution followed by a passage about a final pontiff Petrus Romanus. Some believe all these words refer to one pope (Francis) and others who say Francis is referenced only by the persecution wording:
“The Holy Roman Church will sit in extreme persecution.”
Whatever one thinks of the accuracy of all the prophecies, that one certainly rings a bell.
Wording that some then believe to refer to the same pope, and others look for as describing the next one, is as follows:
“Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.”
If this also refers to Francis, it would necessarily mean that the prophecy (if valid) is telling us that Christ’s return is so imminent that no new pope will be selected before some act of final destruction occurs (it could be symbolic as in Christ’s return and a judgement on the R.C. church).
Parallel to that is the Biblical prophecy that the tribes of the earth will be mourning as Christ is revealed in the clouds of heaven. While that prophecy does not indicate the reason for mourning, the phrase “tribes of the earth” seems to point to a secular reason of international significance. One could say that the Prophecy of the Popes and the scriptural prophecy are convergent either now or in the future rule of a different Peter the Roman.
As a papal selection conclave usually takes about a week or two, for Francis to be valid as Peter the Roman will require a second coming event within that short time frame; de facto, mourning related to the passing of Francis will be the tribes of the earth reference. Note thread title “Obama mourns passing of Pope Francis” elsewhere on FR today.
I loved Benedict! I wonder why the switcharoo too.
And you know this…how? 🤣
I know, right? The day after Easter too. Shameful to see “Christians” trying to tear down Catholicism, but it’s been the case since I joined FR 27 yrs ago.
Commentary on the prophecy includes an observation that it has been difficult to associate the name Peter with Francis, but his death at Easter reminds me that Peter is known for having thrice denied knowing Jesus (at Passover/Easter).
I’m surprised at your comments about the Catholic Church. I always thought you were one of the more rational and kinder posters on this forum. Apparently your desire to dismantle the Church’s hierarchy, thereby weakening it, matters more to you than loving and supporting fellow Christians. I find that shameful.
O God, Thou didst raise Thy servant, Francis, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchizedech, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name. We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors. This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.
> I’m afraid the Catholic Church is really close to going the way of the Episcopal Church that I grew up in, they went new age and woke and now they are a much smaller shell of their former self
There are still lots of good, rock-ribbed conservative Catholics out there. I’m one of them! I was raised Catholic and went to 12 years of Catholic school, where I received an excellent education.
American Catholics are trending more conservative than top leadership. I remember a time, in the 1970s (when post-Vatican II changes took hold), where they tried to be “hip” (the “woke” of its time) to get younger people into the church.
These days, you do have to be careful to find a Catholic church that doesn’t cater to illegals. I live in CA so that’s difficult, but I did find a good one. The trick is to find one that doesn’t have Spanish versions of their website or newsletter.
> From the little that I know, the Vatican council (conclave) is stacked to pick a lefty pope same as Pope Francis. Time will tell.
All we can do now is pray.
I will be going to my Church today to pray the Rosary for the Cardinals to have wisdom to pick a new Holy Father who will uphold the Catholic Church’s historically conservative beliefs.
As I read it, the ZNEXT pope will be the last one before Christ’s reyurn.
Pope-a-Dope Francis is a Marxist pedophile....and certainly NOT a Catholic.
The only choice he has now is “regular or extra crispy” in his new dry heat surroundings.
” ...your desire to dismantle the Church’s hierarchy,”
It’s not “’THE’ Church”. It’s simply a denomination within the broad Christian genre.
As if anyone would want to “dismantle” any cult’s structure. All religions and sects have equal rights to exist in America. We should respect that 100%; I know I do.
“I find that shameful.”
That’s OK.
