19-year-old Merwil Gutiérrez was among the hundreds of Venezuelans deported to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

While Gutiérrez was being detained, ICE agents allegedly indicated that he wasn’t their intended target but were told to “take him anyway.”

Gutiérrez was seeking asylum in the U.S. and had an immigration court date scheduled for 2027.
