Sad. Thanks for the update.
Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful reply.
I’ll try to pen a thoughtful and insightful response later today.
“Actually, his dad had custody. The biological mother is Norwegian. The cop is the stepmother. There has been a bitter custody battle going on for years...and the kid was on various drugs for...issues.”
He is 20 years old, he is not a kid and at 20 years old, there are no custody battles.
It is not all that relevant if he was on various drugs, just as it is not relevant if Luigi Mangione, Bryan Kohberger, or Karmelo Anthony were on various drugs.
People can tell if someone has Downs by looking at them. That is not an insult. But here you are insulting me.
Why is psychotropic drug use not relevant?
“Why is psychotropic drug use not relevant?”
No psychotropic medication he may have been taking compelled him to drive to the FSU campus and commit acts of murder and mayhem.
He made that decision independently, with ample time to reflect on his intentions during the drive. Despite that opportunity for reconsideration, he proceeded with a deliberate and premeditated mass shooting.
I’d have to say, that based on my life’ experience, psychotropic drugs very often interfere with RATIONAL decsion-making.
Not to mention ADVERSELY affecting his ability to “. . . reflect on his intentions during the drive. killers”
Indeed
Roughly 33 percent of U.S. college students, over 6.25 million individuals use some form of psychotropic medication.
Yet on the day Phoenix drove to the FSU campus, none of them committed mass murder. He alone chose to get in his Hummer, drive to campus, and open fire. The medication didn’t make that decision—he did.
“Roughly 33 percent of U.S. college students, over 6.25 million individuals use some form of psychotropic medication.”
WOW! That is one scary statistic! Your source?
Find me this statistic: “What % of U.S. mass shooters were using some form of psychotropic medication at the time they committed their crime?”
AND, with respect to the other FSU students on psychotropic medication, who is watching them for aberrant behavior?
Statista
“During the 2023-2024 school year, 33 percent of university and college students in the U.S. reported that in the past year they had been using antidepressant medications regularly. This statistic shows the percentage of postsecondary students using psychotropic medications in the United States in 2023-2024.”
The University of Michigan
Title: Use of Psychiatric Medication by College Students: A Decade of Data
“Over the last decade from 2007 to 2018-2019, there was an increase in use of nearly all classes of psychiatric medications, with reported antidepressant medication (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), etc.) use increasing from 8.0% to 15.3%, anti-anxiety medication (benzodiazepines, buspirone, etc.) from 3.0% to 7.6%, psychostimulants from 2.1% to 6.3%, antipsychotics from 0.38% to 0.92%, and mood stabilizers from 0.8% to 2.0% (all p<0.0001), respectively. In addition, the use of more than one category of medication at a time has increased, from 28.2% in 2007 to 40.8% in 2018-
2019 (p<0.0001)”

Thanks!
Stunning! Simply STUNNING!
I Praise the Lord that neither I nor my direct family has had a drug problem. HST, I have witnessed, first-hand, the devastation psychotropic and illegal drug use has caused FRiends and extended family.
And, don’t even go to my experience in the USN re: the destruction drug use among sailors caused!
[I am intentionally conflating psychotropic and illegal drugs — IMHO, they are ruining this country!]
Were you able to run this statistic to ground? “What % of U.S. mass shooters were using some form of psychotropic medication at the time they committed their crime?”
I have not been able to track that one (a VERY closely guarded statistic), but anecdotal evidence indicates a strong correlation with psychotropic drug use and mass killers.
