Ex-commander of the 58th Army The RF Armed Forces decided to send General Popov to the SMO zone at his request. This was stated by his lawyer, reports TC Readovka.

In what position the general will return to the SMO zone has not yet been announced. His arrest and the investigation caused a great resonance, many servicemen expressed their support for him.

Recall that in March, Popov addressed an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, asking him to "return him to service." Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin had read the letter.

As reported by EADaily, combat General Ivan Popov was arrested on charges of allegedly stealing in 2023 more than 1.7 thousand tons of rolled metal products purchased by the CAA of the Zaporozhye region for the equipment of engineering defenses on the line of combat contact. Popov pleaded not guilty.

From what I’ve read his position will be that of a NCO in a penal battalion of storm troopers, drone bait.

I can respect his choice rather than rotting in a cell.

What choice would Milley make if he were ever to be held accountable for his treachery, federal pen or Uke front line trench?

The Russians don’t fool around with incompetents in their military. DEI is no defense.

Was it the Russians or Chinese that were caught fueling liquid powered missiles with water rather than rocket fuel?

After defeating the very best of NATO’s hundreds of billions in equipment and the best army in Europe next to Russia’s you should have a little more respect for the fighting men in Russia.

Now if this were one of our rainbow warrior Pentagon generals, the only controversy would be promotion or legal battle over whether IT was sent to a men’s or women’s prison.

"The Russians don’t fool around with incompetents in their military. DEI is no defense."

I would not put it exactly like that. The Russians always seem to start a war in terrible shape, with thoroughly incompetent leaders, usually as the result of political appointments. Eventually, after catastrophic losses, they weed them out and replace them with winners. This is similar to what happened with the Army of the Potomac in our civil war.
