IMHO, these systems will only continue to be deployed
There is SO MUCH theft in retail, I think most will employ this or similar technology
I’d prefer to be wrong but I guess we’ll find out

There was rampant cheating in welfare benefits in San Diego. Some scammers would pick up benefits 5 times for each "payday". The system was updated to require a thumbprint to collect the benefits. Any attempt to collect more than once would be detected...and it worked. A massive decrease in payouts. There is certainly a place for biometric id. Taxpayer funded "assistance" is clearly a reasonable use.

And that’s how it’s going to happen, IMHO
LOTS of FRAUD, THEFT, “MANDATES” - it’s how India got started long, long ago:
Wow, it even mentions a bag of rice (similar) at the point I started the video
(From about 2011-2012)
An oldie but a goodie - India scans fingerprints and retinas for welfare payment system:

I had my fingerprints scanned with a similar device just a few years ago;
the job required a basic security clearance.

This should help with spreading the next disease.

I had my fingerprints scanned with a similar device just a few years ago; the job required a basic security clearance.I've had to submit fingerprints for my DoD security clearance and concealed carry permit. No big deal considering the circumstances. Getting a CAC card also requires a thumbprint that gets encoded as a biometric attribute. I've had one PIN lockout on my CAC. It took 40 minutes for the local office to accomplish the 80% match between my thumbprint and the value on the card. An incentive to not repeat that mistake.
There is another place where fingerprints are demanded. Making an application for an ATF tax stamp for NFA items.

Did they put a gel on your fingertips?
The device looked very similar to the one used in India
I had no idea they were going to apply gel to my fingertips and thumb

I love the idea of touching something that hundreds of other people have touched just before I go to eat.
