Indian police said on Thursday they had arrested a U.S. tourist who sneaked onto a highly restricted island carrying a coconut and a can of Diet Coke to a tribe untouched by the modern world. The incident occurred seven years after another American was killed by the tribe on the same island.
Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov, 24, set foot on the restricted territory of North Sentinel — part of India's Andaman Islands — in a bid to meet the Sentinelese people, who are believed to number only around 150. All outsiders, Indians and foreigners alike, are banned from traveling within three miles of the island to protect the Indigenous people from outside diseases and to preserve their way of life.
"The American citizen was presented before the local court after his arrest and is now on a three-day remand for further interrogation," Andaman and Nicobar Islands police chief HGS Dhaliwal told AFP. Satellite photographs show a coral reef-fringed island — stretching to some six miles at its widest point — with thick forest and white sand beaches.

Can we make sure he never returns to the U.S. again?
Was he sponsored by Diet Coke? Maybe they should be punished?
He’s lucky to be alive.
What an asshole.
Yep. People have died trying to visit the island. The natives are violent to outsiders.
Can we just arrest influencers in general for being dumb clucks?
He was just trying to give the world a coke
This tourist came heavily armed, or so it seems.
He went to great lengths to violate another country’s justifiable law. Should our embassy try to assist him?
They were once welcoming, but the presumption is they may have suffered from some form of illness from a visitor and they said never again.
😆
Perfect.
North Sentinel Island in the Andaman Sea is basically just down stream from the world’s largest toilet. I’m sure all sorts of stuff alien to their culture washes up on their beaches. A Coke can isn’t going to send them into an anthropological tizzy.
I suspect he’s not gay and the showing up at a women’s rally wearing a “Gays for Trump” shirt was a dangerous yet epic troll.
That said, he’s an a-hole. I hope India throws the book at him to encourage others to follow the law
To paraphrase....there are bold adventurers and old adventurers, but there are no old, bold adventurers.
Taking bets on when this young dufus sees the light, or dies doing another stupid thing.
“Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov”
“US tourist”
“Another American”
Hmmmmm...
That would be nice. A U.S. influencer recently was in Australia and took a baby wombat from it’s mother in the middle of the road.
Maybe we could slip Elon in under the category as well!
It’s interesting to note that the island tribe is estimated to have become isolated about 55,000 years ago, whereas the Great Pyramids are considered ‘old’ at a measly 4500 years... basically yesterday on that time scale.
That’s a great movie!
