The Springs is getting as bad as denver under the current mayor.
Banks keep money in a safe. I’ve never understood why jewelry stores don’t do the same when they close, how hard can it be?
15 minutes work?
Wow. The store owners fear retribution.
Societies crumble when people fear thieves more than thieves fear the authorities.
Makes me wonder if the store contents were insured...
Many jewelry stores do just that. I think the issue is that Colorado Springs has rapidly deteriorated to the point that many business owners have been slow to recalibrate security. 20 years ago, Colorado Springs was an incredibly safe place. Now it’s totally ruined.
I see this a lot. It takes time for a rapidly changed reality to to become common knowledge. I still run into people that tell me how much they liked Colorado Springs some years ago. I always tell them they would be shocked now.
Thanks for the comment, always good to hear from local people. We left Littleton in 2009 because we thought the metroplex had become a lousy and dangerous place to live. We’ve had a great life in the mountains since.
The culprit is legalized marijuana.
Colorado: A lost cause.
Legalizing marijuana was a bad move!
I was there last week for the first time ever and I really liked the place.
Everyone seemed very mellow.
I’d like to go back and stay in those mountains. I got to see just a little on a jeep tour.
Hire an armed person to guard the interior after hours with closed circuit cameras.
Somebody breaks in? No warnings! DOUBLE TAP the bastards.
I think part of the cost is the sheer amount of damage they do breaking in. Pick axes destroying a wall and display cases smashed. All of this costs money.
If the area is going down, like here, it is sometimes better to just close up and call it a day. Take the insurance and move on...
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
That’s fine and dandy, but it costs money and many small businesses can’t afford it...
They are mellow because they legalized pot...
Societies crumble when people fear thieves more than thieves fear the people.
Once Colorado became yet another "Don't you dare shoot back!" state, this result was inevitable.
Well...sure as hell doesn’t cost $220K! (the loss from the previous burglary)
More than one person has told me that and I believe.
Everything was so clean though.
I was in The Springs recently, have family there.
Went downtown for some reason, walked around - during the day - the streets were empty and it looked like businesses were hurting.
Locals told me the city has vastly deteriorated and is becoming overbuilt.
The Springs has two demographics: Gangs and military, many of which are also in gangs.
Hiring a security guard is more than a one day expense. Easily can run over $100,000 a year in CO...
