Why would he resign? People like him tend to want to stand up and file lawsuits and demonize all who disagree with them.
Maybe more to the story?
He can go to California or some other liberal place, where he can celebrate his diversity. He can get teaching jobs elsewhere.

He probably spent his entire work day speaking in a falsetto, like Barry Gibbs of the Bee Gees. Remaining in a state of Make Believe all day, every day is not healthy for the mind.
