Trump Agenda Upended as Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Eight Other House Republicans Join Democrats to Derail Two Critical Bills Due to Proxy Voting Feud

A handful of Republicans decided to put themselves first and derail President Trump’s agenda for at least a week all because of an obscure issue few people in America care about.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) dramatically resigned from the House Freedom Caucus on Monday, accusing her former allies of betrayal, blackmail, and abandoning “pro-family” values.

Luna’s departure stems from her fierce advocacy for a bipartisan measure that would allow new mothers and fathers in the House to vote remotely for 12 weeks following the birth of their child. The proposal, co-sponsored with Democratic Representative Brittany Pettersen (D-CO), gained traction through a rare discharge petition, securing discharge signatures from over 200 Democrats and 11 Republicans.

Now it says vote remotely. Other reporting said proxy voting. Two different concepts.

Voting in person is a requirement of the job unless unless things like being in a hospital having an operation, etc.

Don’t run for office then.

Anna Paulina Luna: Hi. I’m new here. I’m going to throw a fit and derail the will of the people unless we change a petty, irrelevant matter the way I want. It’s nice to meet you.

I can see it for new moms. Then there’s the cabinet head that took 6 months off. Total BS.
I hope we don’t get too strict with our ‘majority’ rules. Give the left an inch and they take a mile.

Luna’s departure stems from her fierce advocacy for a bipartisan measure that would allow new mothers and fathers in the House to vote remotely for 12 weeks following the birth of their child.

The problem is that the courts have ruled proxy voting in Congress as unconstitutional and a violation of the Quorum Clause.

"the Court concludes that the Quorum Clause bars the creation of a quorum by including non-present members participating by proxy.”

Yes. They want to allow new mothers in Congress to vote by proxy, and not have to be physically present to vote in Congress.

If they just gave birth I think they get automatic 3 month maternity leave so I dont see the issue with them voting by zoom if necessary hasn’t that always been the case?

They're not two different concepts. They're the same thing: a rule that allows non-present legislators to vote, which is unconstitutional.

So, the courts are saying she’s wrong on the proxy issue.

Hey! Watch it there. We don’t want the Republican to start looking like it supports moms and babies or anything. That might help us with the women voters.

Better to be like Soviet women. Drop that baby, hand it off to an expert and be in you seat in the Kremlin the next day, ready to work. /s

Proxy means letting another do it for you. Remotely means you are still voting.

No.not always. They did some limited absent voting arrangements during covid. But they changed the rules back, to all must be physically present to vote.
