Summary
It's an anxious wait for world leaders with details of US President Donald Trump's 2 April tariffs still largely unknown
Global markets have been volatile as investors prepare for a massive slate of import taxes
The European Union says it is ready to retaliate, while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he wants to avoid "a knee-jerk response"
In the Oval Office on Monday, Trump told reporters he has "settled" on what the tariffs will be for Wednesday, a day he has dubbed "Liberation Day"
The measures will come on top of tariffs already imposed by Washington on aluminium, steel and vehicles, along with increased levies on all goods from China

I hope it works out but I don't know. No Freeper does.
The US Senate will potentially reject the proposal led by Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky but I don't know how much weight it carries. A symbolic rebuke it looks like it will be.
A true Rand Paul fan wouldn’t be advertising his foolish alliance with those opposed to MAGA’s fair trade agenda
Retaliate? What, are they going to raise their current tariffs on US goods even higher? I guess it’s only ‘fair’ when they can have them and we can’t?
“but EU ‘ready to retaliate’”
but, but, but the EU “retaliated” first with their long-standing anti-American tariffs ...
They have had tariffs on us for years but they scream like babies when we reciprocate. The Euros are inveterate grifters.
Except for a few rare minerals, what do other countries have that we cannot produce ourselves? I contend tariffs will work because they need us more than we need them. The only major harm I see is if they decide to retaliate by demanding we close our overseas military bases, which, for the most part, they need as much as we do.
AI: In 2024, imports from the European Union to the United States accounted for 13.7% of total U.S. imports>
Total imports are 14% of GDP. The imports form the EU are 14% of 14% = 2% of the US GDP. So how much is 2% of GDP? It is .02 x $27B = $52B.
This is a pretty big nothing burger over a tariff on $52B. Hell, the US govt wastes $52B in a good week on stupid crap.
Please don't throw us into that briar patch!!!! Harm? LOL!!!
