Ukraine's NATO Obsession Led to Crisis – Trump
Sputnik News ^ | 3/31/25

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US President Donald Trump said that the issue of Kiev's membership in NATO had been the cause of the Ukraine conflict, and it was not discussed in the context of the rare earth metals deal.

"I see he [Volodymyr Zelensky] is trying to renegotiate the rare earth [deal],"Trump told reporters at the White House. "Through you [reporters], I heard that they now say 'Well, I'll only do the deal if we get into NATO' or something to that effect. Well, number one, that was never discussed."

The issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO was the cause of the conflict, Trump believes.

"That's probably the reason the war started, actually," the US president emphasized.

He is just trying to suck up to Russia to get an agreement to end the war. I don’t think he really believes this.

This Z fellow is erratic, untrustworthy, a criminal and corrupt. He holds fewer that any cards. He is replete with negative cards. Leave him with his own people and the euro-parasites to deal with. Foreign entanglements are usually not to our benefit.

from the 1990s onward, NATO morphed into bloated, corrupt, globalist bodyguard for the neo-marxist control of Western Europe.

“US President Donald Trump said that the issue of Kiev’s membership in NATO had been the cause of the Ukraine conflict”

The biggest cause, but far from the only cause.

Wrong. Ukraine wants to be in NATO; Ukraine also wants US troops on the ground: Ukraine also wants nuclear weapons; Ukraine is not getting any of those.

The dying of the neocon dream of conquering Russia has affected your ability to reason. America's and NATO's insistence on admitting Ukraine to NATO, right on Russia's doorstep, was the cause of the war. If Texas theoretically broke away from the US and then, 30 years later, tried to join the Warsaw Pact that act would've led to World War III in moments.

Why not? This conflict did start due to Ukraine wanting to join NATO.

"The biggest cause, but far from the only cause."

You're right. However, I believe that the attempt to join NATO was a tipping point - the straw that broke the camels back.

One gazes at the map depicting locations of American bases throughout the mid-east and wonders why it is profitable for us to maintain these bases but NATO's bases are too expensive?

One observes that these bases are far more vulnerable than NATO bases, yet there we are while we blow up NATO.

Is it because the host nations in the Middle East love us while the European nations despise us? Is it because Israel is worth defending but Ukraine is not?

Perhaps both places are worth defending.

Agreed. However it was the CIA and Millie running Ukraine. Zelinsky was just a little big man on the take, hoping for a bump in pay. Biden wasn’t even involved.

Ukraine's NATO Obsession Led to Crisis – Trump

LOL, maybe Ukraine had a valid reason to join try to join NATO, just like Finland? Russian imperialism?

Putin himself has repeatedly made clear that he denies Ukraine's right to exist and is determined to extinguish Ukrainian statehood.

Putin in 2021 posted a 5,000 world essay on why Ukrainian statehood was a historical mistake.

Putin in 2014 Seized Crimea from Ukraine, when Ukraine was neutral and the overwhelming populace was against joining NATO.

no, it started because Russia wanted to conquer Ukraine. Wars of aggression and conquest are deeply embedded in Russia DNA. Why do you think Russia has the largest land area of any other country?

A far bigger cause: the two coups orchestrated against elected pro-Russian governments by one-worlder Americans in our government, such as Victoria Nuland, and cheered-on by Democrat officeholders and John McCain.

This conflict started because Putin believes Russia should have hegemony over eastern Europe and in 2021 demanded NATO withdraw from Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, etc.

And why do you think Ukraine wants to be a part of NATO? It wouldn't be because they were apart of the same country as Russia and no more about Russia and its history and intentions than you do, now would it?

Neocons lie like they breathe. I guess you missed all the articles containing quotes that Putin needed to be deposed and Russia broken up and raped for resources. Goto DU to tell your lies.

Why is it we can’t just lay it out honestly? Your post lays it out as to who was actually pushing for NATO in Ukraine.
It was an actual threat to Russia because it was clear since the beginning of Ukraine as a separate nation that NATO would not move eastward.

Yet it did. Over and over.

Needs to be understood who has been the real boss in Ukraine since 2014. Just ask that POS Lindsay Graham.
