Danish PM accuses US of ‘unacceptable pressure’ as JD Vance says he will join Greenland visit

Mette Frederiksen, the Danish prime minister, has accused the US of putting “unacceptable pressure” on Greenland – which she has vowed to resist – before an unsolicited visit to the Arctic island by members of the Trump administration.

Later, just hours after her comments, the White House sprang a fresh surprise, as the US vice-president, JD Vance, announced he would join his wife on a trip to the territory this week.

“There was so much excitement around Usha’s visit to Greenland this Friday that I decided that I didn’t want her to have all that fun by herself, and so I’m going to join her,” Vance said in a video on X.

“Speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it’s important to protecting the security of the entire world.”

Even before Vance’s announcement, Frederiksen told Danish channel TV 2: “I have to say that it is unacceptable pressure being placed on Greenland and Denmark in this situation. And it is pressure that we will resist.”

I’m past fed with these tiny European countries, with militaries the size of the Vermont National Guard, and their oversized sense of self-importance, “resisting “.

Eff em.

So Vance and his wife visiting Greenland is ‘unacceptable pressure’. Right.

We don’t want Denmark; we want Greenland.

Denmark doesn’t need it anyway.

I think primarily, Vance want to Greenland to offer a ‘protective presence to his wife. He didn’t like the idea of her being surrounded by groups of hostile or rude Greeenlanders. That’s both gallent and understandable.

We were willing to negotiate over the status of Greenland in good faith.

But now what's to stop us from annexing Greenland? We are already halfway there. We have a military base there. And JD was just there visiting.

If THIS is “pressure” to Denmark, I wonder what being owned by the Chinese will be to them?

The Nuuk government, however, disputed that. “For the record, the Greenlandic government has not issued any invitations for visits, either official or private,” it said in a statement. “The current government is acting as an interim government pending the formation of a new coalition, and we have kindly requested all countries to respect this process.”

feeling pressure. Who is feeling the pressure and why?

This particular politician is feeling pressure from constituents who want freedom I would propose.

That will happen as soon as we have a Democrat back in the White House.

That’s my point. We could just declare “it’s ours” and there isn’t anything anyone could do to stop us. Europe really needs to come to terms with the fact that without US support, they are all vulnerable. Again, eff em.

If they're angry at us for "annexing" Greenland in a hypothetical scenario, we can pull out of NATO.

They can deal with Putin by themselves.

I’d feel much better served if they [Trump/Vance] stirred up the spineless GOP here at home and left the Greenlanders alone . The Greenies aren’t the ones kicking Trump’s EO’s to the curb and continuing 2T a year deficits.

How is visiting Greenland, and even making some offers considered “unacceptable pressure”? I think someone’s scared that the people of Greenland might overwhelmingly choose to support the US instead of the EU deep state globalist cult.

Trump is sacrificing his domestic agenda, which is important things like election integrity, for a foreign policy opposed by many in his party. In short, Trump wants to play hardball with Denmark and Greenland while playing softball with Putin. He is giving his domestic opponents ammunition to impeach him yet again and lose the 2026 midterms. It's not why people voted for Trump in 2024.

Has anyone discussed that Denmark has been looking at what joining communist China’s Belt and Road initiative and what that would mean for Greenland in the long run? That’s been pretty quiet.

Been to a few bars in Copenhagen. Denmark teaches their kids that the Russians won WWII, not the Americans. Screw them.

Can you chew gum & walk at the same time/
The urge to simplify & focus on one thing at a time is understandable...it’s easier. However it’s easier for opponents to obstruct as well. President Trump has said he prefers to keep many balls moving simultaneously to allow him maximum room to maneuver.

Agreed, but we should leave NATO anyway. Like all goobermint initiatives, they remain long after they have achieved their objectives, or have been shown to be abject failures.
