The Trump administration raised the temperature with Denmark Thursday ahead of Vice President JD Vance’s trip to Greenland — accusing the Danes of “mistreating” Greenlandic people against the backdrop of President Trump openly talking about annexing the island.
“The Vice President and Second Lady are embarking on a historic expedition with their visit to Greenland, where the Vice President will emphasize the importance of bolstering [Arctic] security in places like Pituffik Space Base,” a senior White House official said.
“Unfortunately, Danish leaders have spent decades mistreating the Greenlandic people, treating them like second class citizens and allowing infrastructure on the island to fall into disrepair. Expect the Vice President to emphasize these points as well.”
The Vance trip caused a stir even before the VP was set to join the trip. Initially, his wife Usha Vance was going to attend a dogsled race in Greenland on Saturday with their children — but Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called it “unacceptable pressure.” A Greenlandic store also rescinded its invitation to host the second lady during the trip.
National security advisor Mike Waltz will also attend the trip, sources familiar with the plans told The Post. He was originally going to be part of the US delegation on the second lady’s trip, but his name was omitted in the announcement Wednesday that the trip plans had changed.
Tensions between Washington and Copenhagen have grown for months as the president has repeatedly said he’s keen on the US taking over the island belonging to Denmark — and not ruling out the use of military force to do so.

Honestly, feeling “mistreated” is for the Greenlanders to tell the Danes, not us.
Depends on how badly we need the rare earth minerals from Greenland.
As a rule, abused people cannot speak for themselves.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz should probably stay here and send someone else in his place.
This is not the time to send Waltz where he will be surrounded by European reporters asking him about that wrongly sent strategy message. Waltz has shown the tendency to talk too much to the wrong people, as though he could convince them to accept logic.
This is the kind of diplomacy I hope the First Lady decides to get involved with. The fact that Melania is European by birth, and multi lingual would certainly work in her favor.
It’s like putting the moves on another man’s wife.
Most of the population on Greenland is indigenous...similar to the Inuit in Alaska and Canada. It is basically a Danish colony.
great powers sit in bigger chairs at bigger tables than little countries, and have very different rules.
No one's stopping Greenlanders from speaking.
So I guess that proves they're not abused.
Reported elsewhere, daily Mail I believe, the people stayed indoors and refuse to come out. A company closed a store that was intended to be used for Usha’s meet and greet.
Greenland was keen on joining the US but changed.
I think Trump has blown this deal.
.
Some Greenlanders want greater independence from Denmark. That was misreported (mostly by Trump's team) as wanting to be part of the U.S.
Did you know about the experiments done on the native women.
They might want out.
Imo Trump has blown the deal.
But hopefully it can be salvaged
Yes. Trump is implying that the Greenlanders will get better treatment from America. Next he’ll offer them all a free Tesla to vote America.

or how badly we want the active Chinese mineral mine to expand and bring in other CCP controlled companies.
