The Agony of John Roberts
Town Hall ^ | 24 Mar 2025 | Kurt Schlichter

Posted on 03/24/2025 1:19:52 PM PDT by Rummyfan

ity poor John Roberts. No, he’s not corrupt or compromised. He is simply a man who has found himself at a pivotal time and place in a position of great responsibility for which he is utterly unsuited. He’s not a dumb man. He is, in fact, a very smart man – Hugh Hewitt knew him personally in the Reagan administration and testifies to that. I have no doubt it’s true. I know many smart people who have similar flaws. As objectively intelligent as John Roberts is, he is unwise, and he is endangering the institution he wants to preserve because he does not understand human nature or the times he finds himself in.

Frankly, I’ll take wisdom over raw intellect any day of the week.

If he had the capacity to lead that he so manifestly lacks, John Roberts could save his institution with decisive and bold action. But that’s not who he is. Understand what John Roberts wants. He is an institutionalist who has always wanted to protect the judiciary branch. He wants it to be a fully co-equal branch that is respected by all. But the very actions he has chosen to take – or not to take – in response to the current crisis of out-of-control subordinate courts are guaranteeing that it will fall.

After the latest ruling from Boasberg he should really be in agony.

Doesn’t his wife make $10M lobbying for clients before him?

His agony or ours?

"...Abnormal times call for abnormal responses, but that’s not how John Roberts or his ilk work. Remember, he’s a Bushie, the kind of soft Republican who sees his job less as fixing our broken government than managing its gentlemanly decline..."

Spot on.

Roberts’ fundamental flaw: He is so worried about the court appearing to be political that he - ironically - makes political decisions when writing his opinions. Somehow, they ALWAYS favor the left because the left controls the MSM and Roberts is a coward who fears a bad press above anything else.

The Supreme Court now operates under a new (and unintentional) dynamic.

Roberts leads a coven of witches.

How do we know Boasberg isn’t simply following orders from Supreme Court Justice John Robert’s handlers, directing him to harass Trump at every opportunity? (Just like the orders John Roberts himself appears to be following...)

Anybody who states that “there are no O-hole judges” while simultaneously watching libtard filth shop these cases around the country is a dumbass of biblical proportion... aside from that he is a guttless wonder.

An exceptional article on this issue. And likely to persuade the SOTUS and Trump, if they read it and take it to heart.

If Kurt is reading FR comments, there is a grammatical error in the paragraph beginning with “But John Roberts better...”. Should be “understand”, not “understands”.

Great article.

I never would have thought that except far down the possibility chain for a Supreme Court Justice, but this possibility is certainly in the top five for me.

This is when the head of the judiciary committees in the house and senate should start floating plans to defund/breakup/reorganize the courts...I doubt Roberts wants that political football to be kicked off on his watch. Basically it would be Congress telling Roberts gets your guys in line or we’ll do it for you...and there’s nothing he can do about that.

"He is simply a man who has found himself at a pivotal time and place in a position of great responsibility for which he is utterly unsuited."

Absolutely!

The world is full of men who are smart but not smart enough: mediocre men of mediocre intelligence. When they are called upon for greatness, brilliance, and courage, they fail.

So it is with John Roberts.

The position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court requires exquisite intelligence and great wisdom. Roberts has neither.

History--if it records him at all--will record that he was a mediocre man of mediocre intelligence utterly unsuited for a position which required greatness, brilliance, and courage--and that he failed.

Roberts seems to approach the Chief Justice role in a way that protects the court. Yet, he only sees the external threats.

The damage done by the judiciary is much more damaging than the criticism it receives.

The greatest failing of men like Roberts is that they lack the wit to know their limitations.

Roberts may be an example of the Peter Principle, like some other figures in US history (Jefferson Davis and Herbert Hoover come to mind): someone who does well at lower levels but gets above his level of competence.

The Democrats' attempt to steal the electoral votes of Florida in 2000 and give the election to Gore failed, but they screamed so loudly that people like Roberts are afraid of what they might say if they did something that had the effect of helping the Republicans. That may have been the reason why the courts refused to get involved in 2020 despite massive evidence of cheating. The result was a greatly diminished confidence in the country's institutions by at least half of the population.

Well said. In a job application, the one which describes John Roberts to a tee would look like this:

WANTED:
Mediocre man of mediocre intelligence; Utterly unsuited for a position which required greatness, brilliance, and courage.

“Outright defiance of a court order is another 80/20 issue, but 80% of normals right now believe the President should obey court orders.”

Perhaps President Trump is allowing the Overton Window to move first before taking more direct action to recover his constitutional powers.

President Trump has been on the offense from day 1. I’m confident it will happen and relatively soon.
