Dear FRiends: Update on our FReepathon and our credit card program.

We are nearing completion of the work being done to our credit card program. We have the current version installed on our system now, but it's in test mode. We need to make sure everything is working according to our Merchant bank agreement. And then they need to make sure that it's up to their specs before approving. We also have to complete some administrative tasks before we can go live. Please do not try to make donations on that page by credit card until the work is completed and we announce we're going live.

And, unfortunately, this delay has caused our FReepathon to fall way behind and it's going to be very hard to get caught up before the end of the month. We can't use credit cards at this time But our paypal program still works. Also, paypal has a credit card function where you can donate my credit card through paypal and you don't even have to have a paypal account to do so.

Paypal seemed to work for me. I presume once you get the credit card thing working again, you'll pick up where you left off, and the monthly donors won't have to do anything?

Thanks, Jim. I doublechecked several days ago, and indeed it doesn’t seem that there has been any interruption for donations via PayPal. (It would think, though, that those who donate directly through a credit card will need to make alternate plans for now.)

I just used the PayPal method with no problem. I’ve used that method for many years without an issue.

Yes, after we finish the work on the credit card program we should be able to continue on as before. however, the older credit card monthly will still need to be renewed. that is the credit card monthly’s that were started before October of 2024 will still need to be renewed. the older ones will no longer work.

Paypal monthlies are not affected by this update. They still work as before.

Jim, does Free Republic have a Zelle account to which we can send money donations? My understanding is that they don’t charge fees for a transfer like credit cards do.

The reason I ask is that apparently my monthly credit cards donation for March hasn’t yet gone through. Yes, I know about FR’s current credit card donation technical problem.

Sorry, we do not have a Zell account. Also, we won’t be able to process any more monthly credit cards until we get this credit card merchant account problem taken care of. We’re looking at least another week. Thanks.
