Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his Thursday news conference that he has “reservations” about a 30-day ceasefire proposal in the Ukraine war, saying it’s not clear how the situation would develop in the region of Kursk and elsewhere if a ceasefire was implemented.
Putin lauded the US idea as “great and correct” and said Russia supports it in theory, but there are many things that still need to be discussed before a deal is agreed to.
Putin went on to raise many questions about a potential ceasefire, including how it would be verified. He also said the ceasefire must “be aimed at a long-lasting peace and it must look at the root causes of the crisis.”
It’s not the first time Putin has urged eliminating what he calls the “root causes” of the war, and the Kremlin has previously claimed the current Ukrainian government is part of the root cause.

Stupid Zelensky could have gotten a ceasefire weeks ago with a stalemate in Kirsk if he had not dissed Trump instead. He wasted the opportunity and lost time and now that bargaining chip is long gone.
if, in order to make money, all you had to do was go massacre people and take their stuff legally— we’d all do it. Must be nice.
Getting this clown to the negotiating table. We all see Trump taking tough about sanctions. What sanctions are left for Trump to apply?
Putin’s position has been strengthened by the Z-Man’s blunders, or so he thinks. Anyway, he’s going to play hard-to-get to the extent he can.
To solve the root causes of the war, Putin will go into exile.
Given that Russia does not trust NATO as peacekeepers and Ukraine desires peacekeepers, would India serve as a neutral party of peacekeepers?
“Putin expresses “reservations” about 30-day ceasefire proposal”
Well of course. This is how it works. It is all part of the dance. The little rats at CNN are going to have a meltdown if Trump brokers an end to this madness.
“To solve the root causes of the war, Putin will go into exile.”
he is 72, and ready for retirement.
Ones that could lead to actual war between Russia and the US. As in, enforcing sanctions with embargoes and naval blockades against Russian oil tankers or LNG. Actually destroying existing pipelines or rails carrying crude or coal to India and China.
Etc.
Putin has outlasted four US presidents and is working on number five.
Give the man credit. It's a tall order.
Once the possibility of settlement came up, they moved to mop it up quickly.
Yeah, I don’t have an issue with it. No one should think that he should just take it without question.
The North Vietnamese wanted a cease fire too. We negotiated for years while the war sputtered on. In the meantime, the NV forces kept fighting while the peace talks dragged on.
Of course, it didn’t help that a then-democrat congress stopped restocking ammunition for the south.
I do not understand the hatred for Putins Russia on this site. Putin is not Stalin and Russia is not the Soviet Union. Is that why democrats no longer like Russia... because they are no longer communists? In 500 years the Russians have never had it so good. Is it the west? No. But compared to the Romanovs and the communists Putin is George Washington. But they are pro Christian and anti queer (something i thought was important here). They are also a great counter to China (the real communist enemy). The hatred here for Russia is irrational and unhinged. You people should rethink your lifes decisions. Ukraine is nothing more than a money laundering operstion where they steal billions from us and enrich oligarchs and American politicians.
Like Trump, Putin is in has served nonconsecutive terms as Russian President.
this was expected.
Russia will delay to try capturing Kursk.
maybe after that a ceasefire can occur
