Putin Rejects Immediate Cease-Fire in Ukraine
The Wallstreet Journal ^ | March 13th, 2025 | By Matthew Luxmoore

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia wouldn’t agree to an immediate end to the fighting in Ukraine, as Moscow’s army made rapid gains toward expelling Ukraine’s forces from its Kursk region.

Any pause in fighting at this point would be in Ukraine’s interests, he said, adding that Russia wanted a truce that led “to a lasting peace and the elimination of the root causes” of the war, which he described as a crisis.

Putin’s comments were the first official response from Moscow to a U.S.-backed proposal agreed by Ukraine this week to pause the war, now in its fourth year. They came as President Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, was headed to Moscow to discuss the cease-fire proposal, according to two U.S. officials.

“The idea itself is good, and we of course support it, but there are questions we have to discuss,” Putin said Thursday.

Putin said it wasn’t clear how such a cease-fire would be enforced and whether it would give Ukraine the chance to shore up its forces.

We support a truce, but there are nuances — Putin.
Other quotes:

🔴 Should we let the Ukrainian Armed Forces leave the Kursk region after so many crimes against civilians?

🔴 “Will these 30 days be used to continue forced mobilization in Ukraine?”

🔴 “How will control and verification issues be resolved?”

🔴 “Who will give orders and what will be the consequences of those orders?”

🔴 “Who will determine along 2,000 kilometers of front line who violated what?”

🔴 “These are all questions that require examination meticulous on the part of both sides.”

🔴 “Russian forces are advancing almost everywhere; it is unclear how the situation on the front line will be handled in the event of a truce.”

🔴 “I don’t rule out discussing the idea of a truce in Ukraine with Trump.”

Anyone who has studied war knows the most precarious times are those during true/ceasefire negotiations. Each side will try to stretch the process out while they try to secure their gains or minimize their losses.

Putin saying “No” is not a surprise. Russian negotiations are generally just a notch better than middle eastern discussions. There is always, “One more thing.”

He will come to the table. But it’s going to take either more “incentives” or the threat of completely cutting off their oil production.

Look for Iran to have their drone manufacturing facilities bombed in the coming days.

Putin was giving a press conference and he said that towards the beginning….

It spread like wildfire on X and MSM publications

If they waited two minutes like Paul Harvey used to say “now the rest of the story”

Yea, so the quotes from Putin are all questions about how this ceasefire would work. Hence the quote you left out, “
The idea itself is good, and we of course support it, but there are questions we have to discuss”. I have a degree and 10 years of experience in reading fake news and narrative pushing.

It’s just fake news. Wait for Trump to say whatever he says directly to the camera without media filtering crap. Same is true with Putin. Trump is the voice to wait for (and not a Trump quote but his words on camera).

Some observers think Russia is planning a major offensive this spring and are already moving resources into the area

Sounds like Putin doesn’t want ukraine to have time to beef up their defenses during a pause in the fighting

I’m sure intel is picking up Russian plans and perhaps that’s why Ukraine agreed to the ceasefire on land (they proposed just land and sea)

Nothing will happen until Russia recovers Kursk, otherwise peace would be unsustainable, IMHO
