Withdrawal south from Sudzha. Russia has fire control over the remaining logistical support route from Sumy. The Kursk incursion’s days may be numbered.

What the Obama does “preserving the maximum of our soldier’s lives” mean?

Zelenski knows that Russia can win the war in a war of attrition of troops. So Ukraine's response to Russia's meat waves has been to kill as many of them as possible and then retreat if required rather than lose too many men. Ukraine has a strategy of producing drones to kill the Ruskies rather than lose troops. This is the war in a nutshell: Can Ukraine outlast the Russian meat waves with superior machines and technology? So, a ceasefire, that permits Putin to rebuild the masses of fresh meat and supplies for them is not in Ukraine's interest.

Both, Zelensky and Putin, know that negotiations are happening now, and it's of strategic importance that whatever ground or advantages they currently have, must be kept/maintained for bargaining purposes. A cease-fire would lock down troops in whatever positions they hold Preserving troops in place is necessary for deal-making. Keeping them alive is mandatory, whether they're making gains or not. Initiating new fighting will get people killed, so, they must preserve what they have now.

They are surrounded and cut-off, surrender will preserve lives. Yes. Surrender. They are defeated in Kursk. Hard Truth.

Saving them? How about withdrawing them? The push in was a propaganda ploy in the first place and prolonging their stay over these last few months, with no hope of forward momentum is just plain cruel.

It means they are probably going to be retreating.

Thus, the reason Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire -- to pull what's left of their troops out of Kursk. And, of course, to rearm.
There is no way the Russians are going to go for a ceasefire.

The soldiers are preserving their own lives by making direct deals with the Russian forces, giving them sophisticated equipment in exchange for a safe surrender. They are trapped with nowhere to go.

Correct. Putin won’t engage until Kursk is secure. The Ukrainian soldiers there can’t be supplied. What do they eat, where do they get ammo to fire? How do they replace destroyed equipment?

Withdrawal is a losing strategy. In a war, if there is no strategic value to a withdrawal, staying put is far more strategic.
The push in was a propaganda ploy in the first place
No 'chit' Sherlock!
Meanwhile, taking and keeping territory has very strategic value in fighting and for eventual negotiations.
and prolonging their stay over these last few months,
If you invade my home, don't I have the same right to invade your home? It's only fair, you know. Don't start a fight you cannot finish and don't start a fight you will regret.
with no hope of forward momentum is just plain cruel.
Russia has no 'forward momentum' in Ukraine, where they've been stuck with the same 20% they took in the first moments of the war. Isn't that cruel to the Russian solders who are just dying by the thousands weekly with no progress in sight?
I would say that part of the reason the war has dragged on, is the support which Putin and Russia have gotten from people who justify the Russian invasion. That kind of support encourages and emboldens Russia to continue the invasion. No matter what, Russia can finish the fight, and the many dead and injured cannot be justified.

They are surrounded and their supply lines are cut. They will surrender or die. They can’t withdraw. There is no way out.

I suggest you look at a recent “war” map of eastern ukraine. What Ukraine has is tiny and symbolic, not tactical. This is what these folks are dying for? The illusion of holding their own? Comical. When you have lost ….. losing strategies are necessities. Its only matter if time. They will retreat soon, but after months of
needless sacrifices… in the name of propaganda to land more weapons and more money….it hardly seems like good leadership or a winning strategy.
