Germany May Refuse F35 Purchase over "Emergency Switch"; Consider Eurofighter Instead.

Germany may refuse to purchase American F-35 fighter jets. This is reported by the German tabloid Bild. According to the publication, the reason for Berlin's decision is the presence of a so-called emergency switch in the aircraft's electronic equipment. German officials fear that the United States may at some point deactivate and turn off the exported aircraft anywhere in the world.

If we have to worry that the US might do with future German F-35s what it is currently doing with Ukraine, we might consider terminating the treaty.

– said Wolfgang Ischinger, former head of the Munich Security Conference, in a commentary for Bild. It is worth noting that this statement was made shortly after Washington suspended military aid to Ukraine and stopped providing intelligence data to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Another preternatural item from Nostrabuwayadamus. I have predicted just this for a week. First word I've seen, but exactly what I expected. It's just beginning, percolating up...

Also Airbus Defense guy recommends Eurofighters (made by them, natch) due to the trust issues.

This is the problem with compromised trust, which is what most of the real world depends on. Not "deals". And that is broken like Humpty Dumpty, not all the kings horses and all the kings men, not even Mr. Vance, can put that together again.

Well said!

Wait for all the indignant reaction here blaming Germany for taking Trump's advice and doing to us what he is doing to Ukraine and, by extension, to former NATO allies.

Better that we put the brakes on “trust” before the Weenies pull us over the cliff into a nuclear WWIII. (WWI and WWII were already more than enough for us.)

Pretext, but it is their right to choose a less developed plane. I’m assuming it is less developed, because it is European military craft.

What the American military is losing in sales is making up for it by not being in Ukraine.

Worse, the US has shown its willing to use it. Makes people think.... do we want to deal with these guys? And THATS everyone on Earth. Or every policy maker.

Do you really suppose that Germany's reaction will be confined to that country?

We have only begun to contemplate the costs of rupturing NATO and undermining every alliance around the world for virtually no upside.

My understanding is that it has been a while now that Europe has considered the US to be a frenemy nation. They were always going to push the US out of its sphere of influence when they no longer thought they needed it.

Inevitable.
It likely also means the seeds have been set for another continental war.

Just the tip,
“Do you really suppose that Germany’s reaction will be confined to that country?”

But this sort of thing is made for a cascade effect.
