In California if you go to school and take a course along the lines of work you know like working in an office they will extend your benefits to 50 weeks.

I grew up in Detroit. The Auto industry is very cyclical and is usually a bellwether to the economy. Thus, layoffs and voluntary separations were common. (I didnt even work directly int eh industry and got hung up a couple times and lost my job. Voluntary was not given as an option.)
My experience is that the first offer is always the best offer. The first blanket offer was eight months remuneration.
$25,000 is the second offer. Offer three will be something like go away, here’s two months pay.
Take the money and run.
