Columbia, South Carolina CNN — A convicted double murderer has been executed by firing squad – the first such execution in the United States since 2010, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
The execution of Brad Sigmon, 67, by the South Carolina Department of Corrections on Friday is only the fourth firing squad execution in the US since capital punishment was reinstated in 1976, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.
Sigmon chose firing squad over the two other state-approved methods of execution, lethal injection or the electric chair. He was pronounced dead by a physician at 6:08 p.m. ET, officials said at a news conference Friday.
Sigmon was convicted of the 2001 bludgeoning deaths of his ex-girlfriend’s parents. After their murders, Sigmon kidnapped his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint, but she managed to escape.
In a final statement shared by his lawyer, Sigmon said, “I want my closing statement to be one of love and a calling to my fellow Christians to help us end the death penalty.”
He quoted several Bible passages that emphasize forgiveness and the law. “Nowhere does God in the New Testament give man the authority to kill another man,” he said.
One of Sigmon’s attorneys, Gerald “Bo” King, said shortly after the execution that his client’s “death was horrifying and violent.”
“He chose the firing squad knowing that three bullets would shatter his bones and destroy his heart,” King said in a statement. “But that was the only choice he had, after the state’s three executions by lethal injection inflicted prolonged and potentially torturous deaths on men he loved like brothers.”

Bet he got a bang out of that.
The New Testament doesn’t say to stop the death penalty either.
They should have used a .22. One at a time.
“One of Sigmon’s attorneys, Gerald “Bo” King, said shortly after the execution that his client’s “death was horrifying and violent.””
Probably nowhere near what his victims went through, jerk.
He was actually wise to chose the firing squad, I’ll give him that.
“Brad Keith Sigmon (November 12, 1957 – March 7, 2025) was an American convicted murderer who was executed for the 2001 double murder of his ex-girlfriend’s parents in South Carolina. Sigmon was convicted of battering David and Gladys Larke, aged 62 and 59, respectively, to death with a baseball bat on April 27, 2001, a week after he and his ex-girlfriend broke up. Subsequently, he was given two death sentences. He was also given a 30-year jail term for first-degree burglary for stealing from the Larkes on the day of the murders. Sigmon, 67, was executed by firing squad, becoming the first person in 15 years to be executed by this method after Ronnie Lee Gardner.”
That’s what I would pick.
Shoot! I missed it.
Seriously though, it has to be quicker and more painless than any other method.
No sale. God ordained the death penalty, and verified its continual use in the New Testament. Romans 13: 1-4.
Next time, study your Bible 2 Tim 2:15.....ohhh.....you can’t now. You are separated from the living. Shucks.
Was he asked what he wanted on his tombstone?
Exactly, often it has been reported people were not even aware they were shot at first.
Honestly hes got a warped view of it, not surprising why.
The bible isnt in conflict with itself. One can’t use the New Testament against the Old Testament to escape a temporal punishment.
Further he should have been asked if the 10 commandments were no longer Gods law.
Further, Jesus never said to anyone in government they didn’t have the authority to kill him. Even though he was clearly framed.
Further, would he be ok with someone who is killed by an officer or someone before they themselves can kill someone, but not for a captured criminal who killed someone?
Executing murderers is a positive act on behalf of peaceful citizens to keep society safe and overall protect life from those that would unlawfully/unjustly take it. It also affirms the great importance life has, and of preserving life and a safe society.
He murdered 2 innocent people with a baseball bat. Now he want forgiveness.
did he forgive the people who shot him? Did accept his sentence? Did he talk about love while bashing in an old man and an old woman's head????
No, but it does want all the reasonable evidence to properly ascertain guilt. In principle, I view this as also a requirement to punish a prosecutor who knowingly would work to condemn a man just to get a notch on his belt.
A, MF
But did they use lead-free bullets?
I’m actually a little surprised that only three riflemen (riflepeople?) were used. I would have thought that a firing squad would be larger than that.
Because you never know who might flinch and miss at the last moment.
3 .308 hollow points at 15 feet.
3 minutes to pronounce him dead.
Oh well - have you seen the price of arugula?
